LENKS VIDEO HANDBOOK - Operation And Troubleshooting
Written by John D Lenk
John D Lenk was a prolific technical author (although I cannot establish what his personal professional qualifications are!) for well over 40 years, writing at least 70 books covering an amazingly wide span of electronics. Actually in the foreword the author proudly proclaims this is his 70th book title, seems he judges success by how many books he can publish. He is often referred to as the creator of the electronics world "best seller!"
His style of writing and presentation of technical information in a way that a "hands on technician" will understand is certainly a breath of fresh air. So often in this type of book, information is either lacking or extremely theoretical. This publication has "meat on the bones" and is practical if somewhat "dated"!

Now you may think "Good God, this book was published WAY BACK in the early 1990's, so what good will it be to me?"
This is no "Video For Dummies" type of book, it covers a broad range of analog video related technologies which means that this book is only likely to interest those who would like to know things like "just what was the difference between VHS and Beta?" or why was 8mm so popular (some are even now still using this format!) As to be expected from a Lenk's technical book, it goes into quite some detail on both the mechanics and electronics in this equipment. A lot of interesting reading if you like to go to sleep with a good technical book!
No pretty photographs but PLENTY of clear concise mechanical layouts (VHS & Beta Players), electronic block diagrams, schematics and testing down to component level.
While not a "text book" you could do far worse than this book to learn about the world of 'yester-year" video technology
