An EXTREMELY RARE acetate recording, actually most acetate discs do not contain any acetate. Instead, most are an aluminum disc with a coating of nitrocellulose lacquer. Rare because most were intended for short term broadcast or simply degraded over time to the point of being unusable.
2GB Broadcasting Station recording, Race Call
Recorded 20th May 1970
1st Race
Burragorang 2 Year Handicap
Voice: John Tapp - he had a career spanning thirty-three years it is estimated that he has called over 50,000 individual races and became the voice of Australian racing to a whole generation
Making this extra rare is that it is a 7" recording (acetates were commonly 10" or 12") and this one was made so late - acetates were made until around the late 60's and then tape was much more common for broadcast use in particular.
This is a real "in-house" recording made on vinyl by 2GB - NOT solid vinyl but in fact an aluminium substrate with vinyl coating and then "written"
Actually, 2GB had one of the world's largest transcription libraries back in the 1930's - perhaps this record was made "for fun" 40 years on.
The label is a simple text typed with a graphic - picture of an ear.
This is single sided recording - the other side has no recording and you can clearly see the coating and the aluminium substrate but no "grooves" - it has not been "cut"
Runs at 45rpm
Excellent acetate (transcription) record for the radio history buff
