SUSTAINABILITY
To many folk this VCR would go out in the street side collection or the rubbish bin but I am big on reusing or repurposing both equipment and the components (if still serviceable) as much as I can or finding someone else who can make use of these items.
Sustainability is far more than not burying waste material back into the earth but consciously recognising the energy that was expended to create these buttons and knobs, through their various stages of life from the plastic creation using feedstocks from crude oil or even natural gas, the moulding process and even the energy expended getting the finished product fitted into the equipment and then shipping that equipment from the factory to the distribution centre and onwards to the retailers. Every single step used a little energy, sometimes a LOT of energy e.g the production of Aluminium products uses massive amounts of energy.
HERE is a page I have created which gives some tables and more detailed information about specific Embodied Energy (Ee) values for different materials plus a link which you can use as a starting point to investigate Ee for yourself.
PANASONIC VIDEO RECORDER - SPARE PART ONLY
Model: NV SD20
Spare part offered: Set of front panel moulded buttons and the concentric function knob assembly
Photographs should give you an idea of the buttons and knobs I am referring to ... one photograph has the location of the buttons or knobs "highlighted" in a shade of Grey and with a small Red dot.
These are all moulded buttons or knobs, the buttons in particular can become weak or break away from the assembly, making the button useless. Installation of these buttons is not a difficult process, Panasonic did not use glues - these are all "push fit" behind the front panel. Just remove the front panel (release the side and underneath clips) release the ribbon cables and you should have a complete front panel in your hands. Remove the old button or buttons, knobs and replace with these and you are back in business.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
All assemblies inspected for any stress or weaknesses, none observed.
All buttons and the knobs are clean and free of scratching or discolouration.
Packed onto styrofoam and now sealed in clear plastic, waiting to breathe life into another SD20 which has damaged front panel controls.
