Here is a piece of nostalgia!
Years ago my parents travelled (camped) around a fair bit and today I found some of their old "tourist" scenic postcard packs
Amazing how the Gold Coast has changed and look at those cars! Notable being a number of FJ's in the photographs
This is NOT a reproduction of an original postcard pack but the real deal, around 60 years old!
Beautiful Queensland Gold Coast
Printed and published by John Sands Pty Ltd (Sydney S9031-18)
Release date unknown but likely to have been late 1950's or very early 1960's
Scenic postcard pack (16 scenes)
Unfolds to reveal 8x monochrome photographs and 8x colour photographs
Colour photography is credited to Capt. Frank Hurley (died 1962)
No credits for the monochrome photography
Each photograph is labelled at the bottom
It doesn't appear that the intention with these postcard packs was for them to be sent in the post raw (there is no area for an addressee or messages) but instead either kept as a momento or sent within a separate envelope
Very noticeable is the total lack of high rise buildings, Southport downtown looks like something out of the 'Wild West' and those cars! In fact I would say some of the photographs date to the 1950's based on some of those cars. Camping was what most people did in those days, not the proliferation of motels or hotels as there are now.
All photographs are clean with a couple having just very light mildew spots but in my opinion, overall the pack is in very good condition.
Today I sealed this postcard pack in plastic to preserve the current condition and now put away in a dark place to reduce any light fade.
