This is no "ordinary" bottle! Iconic Australiana and very collectable
Up in Northern Territory a stubby used to be a REAL stubby, not those squat "little boy" stubbies over on the East Coast!
Pressed thick amber glass (weighs 1.4Kg empty) complete with the bull logo
"Legend" (and isn't it great to have a legend behind your beer) has it that there was a 600Kg beer-drinking bull who went by the name "Norman". He was apparently a "regular" Darwin Stubby drinker at the Humpty Doo hotel (Darwin) in the 1980's, consuming a couple of stubby's each session. It is said that this big boy bull managed to skull one stubby in 47 seconds, or so they say!
I never heard what happened after the sessions but if you have a drinking mate who weighs 600Kg and has just drunk 4 litres of beer, don't piss him off!
The Darwin Stubby was produced for 57 years but the parent company, Carlton Breweries made a decision to cease normal production in 2015 - the stubby was no more!
Another story is that when the demise of the Darwin Stubby was announced, "wakes" were held with plenty in the Northern Territory where plenty of N.T Draught Stubbies and Camel legs were consumed! No idea what happened to the rest of the camel but I could only imagine that those legs would be something like chewing on rubber.
