HISTORY:
Our family is very much into "the Arts" in all it's forms, from music to artwork to chinaware and even classic old (high quality) technology!
Our focus has always been landscapes, both Australian and New Zealand but over the years we also have collected some other "interesting" pieces that don't fit with our current interests, this is one of those "interesting" items we accidently ended up with!
We know very little about these artifacts, or even if they are "authentic"
From time to time we visit the fine auction houses just in case a piece of art we are seeking shows up (and is not stupidly priced!) and after one of our purchases (Vickers & Hoad/Sydney Fine Art Auctioneers) we discovered that this "lot" of stone arrow or spear heads was thrown into the deal - so we ended up with these, whether we wanted them or not!
The auction house sticker remains on the rear of the frame!
We cannot tell you how old they are, where they came from or even if they are arrowheads or spearheads although we think they are arrowheads, a bit small for use with the spear.
The wooden frame dimensions: 278mm wide x 227mm height
Each piece is roughly 25mm wide x 42mm length
Each piece has two side indents, presumably so they can be tied to a piece of wood.
2 look to be stone
3 look like a volcanic glass (black and shiny)
We are not very knowledgeable about such things but they seem to be genuine base material (stone not plastics!) but the way they have been shaped worries us a little, like they have been shaved not chipped from the original piece of stone.
The side notches give rise to the same thoughts, they just look a bit too "nice and clean" so perhaps a machine was used to create those notches - we really don't know.
I guess it could be some sort of talking point in the study at it's new home - it certainly doesn't belong in our house!
Worse comes to worse, the all wooden frame is not bad at all - the heads are all mounted (glued) onto a cotton based heavy card which can easily be removed from the frame.
The frame has NO hanging options at the moment - if you were to hang this, you will need to sort that out yourself
Shipping is no problem, we take great care in packing.
