Another quality microphone from our previous audio post production days, this particular mic was a one of our "spares" and saw little use at all.
Sometimes used in our occasional voiceover work, I think also this was one of our "loaners" that we kept on hand when an artist was in dire need for a gig mic and something had happened to their own. Most of the time though this microphone sat with some others in our storerooms.
I have ceased all of my activities in the world of electronics, specifically audio after 40 years in the industry, so everything needs to find a new workshop, studio or artist so that the mic has a "purpose in life" once again!
PSEUDO SHURE (SHAW, SURE THAT'S NOT A SHURE!) WARNING:
While this is a completely genuine Shure product (details below), there are those who like to make a fast buck from producing fakes of high value and high demand products.
Beware when purchasing online! Particularly the online auction sites - if someone is selling a Shure for a ridiculously low price (I saw some for $25 online, that's just crazy) then the old saying comes into play, Always purchase from a reputable supplier, I saw a number of sellers online just say they are in "NSW" without even identifying their location suburb - looked suspiciously like a "fly by nighter" to me.
"If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't"
There is plenty of information online about spotting a fake SM58 but it really comes down to the weight of the microphone, the build and materials used and how it was put together. Even little things like the pouch it is stored in can be a giveaway - often conterfeiters overlook little details and that is where they "trip up"
A pretty comprehensive fake-genuine investigative report relating to the SM58 and the earlier SM57 is HERE - interesting reading!
OK, so there are fake SM58's out there (lots of them!) so I feel it is important to provide as much detail as possible to anyone who may be interested in this mic. You may not know me from a bar of soap (quite different actually) so the information that follows should give you a good "insight" into this genuine SHURE product.

SHURE Orange product safety card with an associated small booklet (multi-language)
SHURE Limited Warranty information (Blue)
SHURE Product Registration card (provides info about registering the product online)
ALL the above "paperwork" is marked as PRINTED IN USA
As we never needed to use these items they were all placed in a sealed clear plastic packet and then back in the box so that they are all "pristine"
The XLR male plug has been extracted to check the condition of the pins and they have had a cleanup ... why? because these are Silver plated pins and over time they oxide and go a nice Brown/Yellow! They weren't very oxidised anyway but now are nice a shiny young things!
NOTE: Another genuine product guide - into the Black insulating ring of the XLR connector should be SHURE stamped into the plastic, along with the normal 1-2-3 pin designations. Of course this connector has that.
No further dismantling of the microphone was undertaken, enough is enough - I know it's genuine and I am providing plenty of "evidence" regarding this.
I expect most serious users would already know the SM58 but some may have been living in a cave somewhere so here are the technical details provided by SHURE
MISSING FROM THE PACKAGE:
Microphone Clip - one of the "loaners" must have used this and it was never returned so it is NOT in the package
Quality XLR microphone lead - this was NEVER in this package (LC)
If you do need to purchase a microphone cable, use a quality professional grade type (not only highest quality cable but durable as those cables can get a pretty rough time on stage, depending upon the antics of the "talent"
I have no financial association with SWAMP in Canberra but always found them to be very good for quality audio cabling.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED (Barely)
Packaging is in very good condition, just slight handling signs to each end of the outer box sleeve from opening and closing the box. Graphics all clean and no additional writing anywhere. Product ID label information is clear and easy to read.
All the paperwork inside the sealed clear plastic packet are in very good condition with no personal writing on them
Pouch is clean, unmarked and has no damage to the stitching or the soft vinyl - zipper working fine too!
Microphone body is clean and unscratched (Black body)
Head is not mishappen and the inside foam pad is clean and undamaged - no gunk!
XLR male pins are clean and shiny
TESTING:
One last check before it goes off to a new home. Plugged it into the old 02R Yamaha desk I have on hand - works a treat, sweet sweet audio without any strange noises when shaken vigorously!
Don't believe the rubbish online from those who are flogging SM58 SHAW (WTF!) microphones - at the prices they are asking, SHURE couldn't even manufacture these high quality instruments!
As a guide, the Australian Recommended Retail Price (RRP) for these is currently sitting around A$200 (give or take a few dollars)
