While we do not usually offer items on other people's behalf, but a family member has asked us to see if 'someone' may like some replacements for their silver plate flatware/cutlery set. The makers of this Silver plate cutlery were Rodd, Mytton Rodd and others - we are not offering a complete cutlery set (or the canteen wooden box!) but each piece of cutlery will be advertised separately so that anyone who is interested has the greatest flexibility in choosing the item(s) they may desire ...

These small forks are in the grouping of the "others" ... although the fact it is Silver plated is stamped into the rear (but not the grade of Silver e.g A1) along with the text MADE IN ENGLAND - but by whom is the big question as there is no indication of the manufacturer or even where in England.

IDENTIFICATION MARKINGS
E P N S MADE IN ENGLAND
That's it, no logo no makers name
DIMENSIONS:
Total length 130mm (just over 5 inches) x 11.5mm across the tines
Tines are 37.5mm long, do not have a sharp edge although they are pointed at the end of each tine
It may be difficult to judge from the photographs but these are really much shorter and narrower than a standard dinner fork
WEIGHT: 12g
COSMETIC CONDITION:
For some we have committed sacrilege! Yes, the people who had these forks cleaned them (removed the patina) as they could not bear to use these looking "dirty" So, like it or not, these are bright, clean and shiny!
DTNS RATING: 9/10 (Darling! That's Nice Silverware!)
CLEAN (no chemicals used for cleaning)
NO severe scratches
NO bending!
NO Oxidisation spotting observed
NO plate wear observed, Silver is even all over each fork
Only light scratching from normal use over the years, nothing dramatic!
With each fork, the three tines are parallel to each other i.e not bent
The grade of plating (thickness) is not indicated but these seem to be pretty good, we have seen far worse Silver plate in the past (of the same age)
Every single fork has been cleaned safely. Silver can be a pain, it needs a polish up from time to time due to the Silver reacting with the air and this shows up as a slight Yellowish look which then progresses to a Brown and finally a dark Black/Grey colour. Fortunately it is not difficult to properly clean Silverware (or plated Silverware) without risking your health (through the use of commercial chemicals such as Silvo) or damage to the item.
How? (I hear you ask, mouth wide open with tongue drooping to one side ...)
Get an Aluminium tray, often sold for use at BBQ's. Place your Silverware inside the tray along with Bicarb of Soda (readily available at the supermarket - Baking Soda) and add some warm/hot water. The 'trick' here is that as much of the Silverplated item should be in contact with the Aluminium dish, sometimes we have even wrapped the item in Al-foil to help the process along. The oxidisation marks will rapidly disappear (around 10 minutes should do the trick) and rub up lightly with a nice soft cloth. Job done, nice and easy while being safe to handle and eat with!
Now that this description is complete, each of these forks have been individually sealed in clear plastic packets to maintain the 'cleanliness' for as long as possible and prevent incidental scratching while these wait for a new home ...
