HISTORY:
Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything (that still has a useful function) should be repurposed creating saving in wasted Ee and reducing the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.
Never heard of Ee? It is a concept that creates a measurement of ALL things (not just electronics) that humans have made and the energy used in obtaining the raw material, processing the materials right through to a finished product and even should include the shipping of the item to the distributors/retailers.
If you would like to know more about Ee values, please take a look HERE
I bought a number of these over the years for the youngsters in our extended family, I was well known for my "here's Gramps with another of his box of electronic stuff" on birthday's etc
I guess it all began when I FINALLY received a similar kit from my Dad back in the 1960's, that one being from Philips. Lot's of fun and learning along the way too ...
I have no further family members I can spin these off to so this one is looking for a new young person who would like to venture into the world of electronics and radio (how radio works, propagation, sun spots and other fascinating stuff!)
So what is this thing? (called love)
Some young people are curious, others have a driven passion to learn all about electronics or just the radio side of electronics.
This kit is designed for those types of youngsters, the age group is suggested as being between 8 & 14 years old.
All the young inquisitive person needs to have is the ability to read English and follow instructions (Come on Dad, you can get involved too) - the kitset contains all the information needed to construct the radio.
All electronic parts are included - nothing else to buy
NO external power is used, SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT, so this kitset is powered by a small 9V battery which is NOT included but easily purchased at many stores.
Again with a view to safety, of course there is no need for a HOT soldering iron (a learned skill in itself) a clip system is used for the components.
Small electronic components are involved so don't let much younger children get their hands on this kitset otherwise they may end up eating it! Seriously, I had one nephew's dog that ate the kitset so I had to send another one.
Estimated time to complete the construction for a child of "normal" abilities is estimated at 60 minutes, hopefully their attention span can handle this!
Finally (and I really don't like getting political about things but sometimes I just can't keep quiet) REST ASSURED that although this kitset originated from Israel, it will NOT explode - absolutely guaranteed!
So with that rather long introduction, here are the specific details about this last remaining kitset I have
CREATIVE - Build A Radio (AM/FM) Kitset
Designed and manufactured in Israel
Released to the market in 2002
This kitset that I have was purchased around 2005
Part # 5320
Intended age range of the user is 8 years ~ 14 years
Race or gender is irrelevant!
Basic circuit is two transistor with the output being to an earpiece
If constructed properly, it will receive Analog AM and Analog FM broadcasts in MONO, no fancy trimmings such as digital radio!
However (not mentioned in the kitset), for those who's minds have been "activated" by this kitset and wish to experiment further, some fun can be had changing the "front end" in subtle ways so that it is possible to retune the radio so that it may receive higher frequency signals such as aircraft and maritime communications. The idea here is that EXPERIMENTATION is the name of the game.
Powered by a small 9V which is supplied by the user (these can be picked up for just a few dollars in many outlets)
All instructions and diagrams are included AND in good understandable English, not Chinglish.
All of the box packaging is in English except for one small area where (for some unexplained reason) instead of having AGES printed, it is instead printed in Hebrew.
DIMENSIONS:
300mm x 300mm x 6mm height
WEIGHT: 550g
COSMETIC CONDITION:
NEW
CLEAN
Factory sealed (shrink wrap)
I have not opened this at all - although I have heat sealing facilities, I do not use shrink wrap film so I could not reseal the package if I opened it.
Unmarked with retail or personal writing - absolutely clean
The outer box is sound and has not been crush damaged in any way.
I hope there is a young person "out there" that can gain a benefit from such a kitset ... I know these kits have kindled interests in both electronics and radio to those I have given them to.
