HISTORY:
Sometimes there is a story behind our chinaware pieces, this is one of those stories ... we absolutely adore the "Art Deco" decorative era in English pottery. Examples of this era were highly prized by us but alas, disaster struck! The saucer USED to have a beautiful teacup as it's mate until one day while not in the china cabinets, our rabbit surprised the cockatiel which then flew straight into the teacup! Lost it's balance and down came the teacup, smashing the cup on the floor! Oh my, tears were shed ... now we have this adorable but tragically orphaned saucer looking for a "new mate" in life
Wellington China is not a name you see very often and this is one of their earlier examples without the Duke Of Wellington (remember him? He beat Napoleon long ago) graphic outline. Wellington refers to the location/name of the pottery works which was being used by J H Cope & Co until 1946 and then no more ... they ceased operations. We are not absolutely sure but this closure was most likely bought on by WWII, an extremely challenging time for British potteries due to British Government restrictions in support of the war effort against "The Hun"
