WARNING!
Previous partial graphic "flood damage" which means the gatefold cover and internal booklet (fantastic graphics!) have slight damage, the music however remains very good!
JEFF WAYNE - Musical Version Of WAR OF THE WORLDS
CBS Records
Cat# S2BP220201 SBP237139
1978
Australian release
Gatefold heavy cardboard cover is in good (minus) condition, no seam splits, no personal writing on the labels or the cover HOWEVER there is one small "finger tear" to the rear of the cover (from opening the gatefold carelessly, this has been stabilised with clear tape) and much more obvious is the "dampness" damage from a storm/flood some years ago. Of course the card-paper cover is dry and it has been sterilised to prevent the growth of moulds! The primary graphic damage is around the spine area (now also stabilised with clear tape) and (thank goodness) none of the booklet pages are stuck together! No odd odours coming off the cover! The most significant areas of graphic damage are the external front and rear, near the spine. The internal booklet (stapled in place) has some rust to those staples. Lesser graphic damage to the internal book, once again near the spine area.
New inner plastic sleeves fitted
Both vinyls are in very good condition, visually inspected under a bright White halogen light source and I can only see the occasional VERY LIGHT scratch or mark on either record. Just looking at the vinyl is not a great way to establish the condition so I then played the album ENTIRELY and surface noise is not an issue with only a very occasional very low level click or pop on either disc - very nice playback.
If you are not familiar with this significant album from the late 70's, here a great well known Sci-Fi story fuses with Classical - Rock with an ongoing dialogue by the actor, Richard Burton. Just when you think you know the outcome of this war, a little surprise in the last few minutes of Side 4, the last track ... It is really quite something!
