OVERVIEW:

This equipment is a member of the T-Marc 300 series from Telco, USA.

This series of compact appliances from Telco are designed to provide Ethernet Service Demarcation and Extension by providing intelligent and remotely managed, multiport customer-located equipment (CLE) to deliver managed converged services (voice, video and data) over virtual Ethernet, MPLS/VPLS and IP networks.

Advanced Layer 2 Networking using Telco Systems’ AccessEthernet® allows total flexibility in deployment, provisioning, and delivery of Ethernet OAM services. Physical and virtual networking capabilities provide automated address management and discovery, bandwidth profiles, advanced traffic classes, and complete control over how subscriber traffic is transported across a service provider’s network.

  • Managed multi-service integration demarcation for converged services (voice, video and data)
  • AccessEthernet™ for advanced MEF-compliant and emerging IEEE-based Services
  • Application-aware for Business-centric Services
  • Zero-touch provisioning
  • Hierarchical Quality of Service
  • Standards-based proxy management for scalable customer deployments
  • Multi-link OAM for flexible inservice operation: IEEE 802.3ah, IEEE 802.1ag, ITU-T Y.1731 and MEF SOAM
  • Multi-layer control, monitoring, line testing and loopback for failsafe operation
  • Embedded RFC 2544-based Service Performance Analyzer for transparent service turn up and qualification
  • Combo Ethernet Ports for deployment flexibility and reduced sparing
  • Jumbo frame support (9216 bytes)
  • Redundant uplinks for protected Services and Link Aggregation
  • Redundant powering capability
  • Purpose-built technology for optimized CAPEX and OPEX
  • Certified to MEF 9 and MEF 14 for Ethernet Services at the UNI
  • Proven multi-vendor interoperability

COSMETIC CONDITION: Excellent

HISTORY-TESTING:

This equipment is amongst a number of "interesting" IT gear that I obtained some time ago and have now had a chance to take a closer look at.

This equipment has been taken out of service due to changing system requirements in a Federal Government agency, to the best of my knowledge it was fully operational prior to removal from service.

I am not an IT specialist however I have undertaken some very basic checks on the appliance using the console port. You can see one of the photographs of a screen shot when I boot up the appliance.

POT appears fine, all tests show as passed

However the password loader takes over and then I come to a complete dead stop because I am unaware of the password that has been set (it is not the default batm)

Try as i might, by various methods I cannot break the loader program and get access to the CLI

The user manual states that a factory reset is possible but ONLY once already in the system, so that option is unavailable.

Another option mentioned in the manual is that Telco support can provide a "backdoor" password which will be based on the MAC address of the applicance.

The MAC address is clearly visible on the manufacturers label, so providing this to Telco should get you the backdoor password but my only question mark here is that the MAC address showing on the boot up screen does NOT match the MAC address on the base of the unit.

Applicance labelled MAC address: 00A01298A800

Bootup screen MAC address: 00:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF

The manufacturers warranty seal is untouched, no-one has been inside this appliance. I did think about going inside to clear the NVRAM by brute force but decided to not undertake this approach, it probably wouldn't work anyway.

The above information details the extent of the testing undertaken, not much once I hit the password brickwall I'm afraid.
