Over the years we have a collected a number of laptops "out in the backroom" of our previous audio post facilities. These have either been upgraded or failed during use.
NO laptop offered is fully functioning, these are FOR SPARE PARTS ONLY
This laptop is carefully described below, READ THE DESCRIPTION COMPLETELY
IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop
Model: T61
Service Issue: Fails POST - One long beep - two short beeps accompanied by a blank display (external monitor is also blank)
DETAILS:
This is a well documented issue with the T61, we researched this one before sticking it out in the back room. Obvious remedies tried such as reseating the RAM but the problem remains - well almost, just ONE TIME I did get POST to pass and Win XP Vista loaded to the point of the log in screen. I was then going to reset the user password (3rd party software via the DVD drive), turned the laptop off and on again but it never again passed POST so that is the way it remains.
There is no external video signal.
It is extremely likely this laptop has the dreaded nVidia GPU failure - lots of talk online about this.
NO servicing has been undertaken although sometime ago our technician opened it up to re-seat the RAM, no other actions taken
NO major components have been removed
Battery Lenovo CM-2 42T5264 - Charged fine and maintaining its charge. Ran the laptop (although not fully functioning) off the battery for 1 hour - no problems at all so this battery appears to have at least some life left in it.
Installed memory: Hynix 2Gb 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12 & Samsung 1Gb 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 / 2.1 GHz
Installed hard drive: Seagate 120Gb hard drive ST912822AS (Lenovo part# 42T 1004)
Installed DVD/CDRW drive
Installed WiFi card - buried under the keyboard, I did not open it up to see which type this is.
Keyboard: good condition
LCD display (15 inch) good physical condition - at the one and only boot up that took me to the Win Vista login screen, the display was very nice.
Touchpad is working fine
Audio function is unknown - motherboard beeps of course though
Keyboard is in good condition
Touch-pad and finger print reader also in good condition
These components are all easy to access and remove.
NO External power supply is supplied (tested using a 19V 3.95A power unit)
Clean
Great for spare parts or get it up and running if you wished to try the "cook the gpu" trick although much better to change the whole motherboard.
