Over the years we have a collected a number of laptops "out in the backroom" of our previous audio post facilities. These have either been upgraded or failed during use.
NO laptop offered is fully functioning, these are FOR SPARE PARTS ONLY
This laptop is carefully described below, READ THE DESCRIPTION COMPLETELY
Compaq Presario Laptop
Model: CQ60-310AU
Service Issue: Originally I think this one suffered storm (water) damage. Looking inside, particularly around the hard drive I can see signs that water was once in there!
See my notes below in relation to what happened when I powered this laptop up
NO servicing has been undertaken
NO major components have been removed
Battery HP HSTNN-LB72 (10.8V 47Wh) - Charging appears have been successful, run off the battery for a limited time (around 15 minutes) because the cpu area of the motherboard gets very hot and then the system shuts itself down.
Installed memory: 2Gb 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12-E1 module, 2nd slot is empty
CPU - unknown type installed, presumed to be a stock standard Celeron 900. Upgradeable if someone wished to go to the trouble of doing this (and the motherboard was ok)
Installed hard drive: TOSHIBA MK5055GSX 500Gb SATA - unknown condition due to system issues
Installed DVD drive: Unable to be tested
Installed WiFi card: HP 459339-004 - unknown condition due to system issues
Keyboard: NOT good condition, one keytop (kept the keytop INS) has come away from the membrane switch
LCD display (15" x 9.5" widescreen) poor physical condition, even signs of burning at the bottom of the screen. It looks like the inverter fried itself at some stage.
Touchpad unable to be tested
Audio unable to be tested
NO External power supply is supplied with the laptop
Testing: Using a genuine HP/Compaq power brick, this is what happens.
Battery charges up fine
I can hear the cpu fan trying to kick into action but it is struggling - the fan is shot.
Bios COMPAQ splash screen comes up, responds to F1 to continue booting (date/time settings all wrong)
The LCD screen is TERRIBLE - severly damaged and unuseable but I can read perhaps 30% of it
External monitor output is NOT working - no video out to an external monitor
Under the cpu area gets VERY HOT after around 15 minutes and then the system shuts down - presumably in self protection mode.
So it may be that the motherboard is working and that it just needs the fan replaced - it does respond to keyboard commands. However the GPU seems to be faulty (no external video)
Unable to establish if the hard drive or other components are working or not
Perhaps useful for some parts
