INTRODUCTION:
I am not sure what the "real name" is for this piece of hardware but I think calling these threaded panel clips is reasonably accurate ... this small piece of hardware is for the constructor or "home brewer" of electronic gear
These were removed from Australian Broadcasting Corporation Workshops built equipment and at times used by me in days gone by when constructing or restoring older electronic equipment cases. I don't recall ever seeing these in an electronics retail store.
They are used in conjunction with removal case panels, usually the topside panel. especially when the case contains some valves and the case has extruded Aluminium panelling to allow for ventilation/escape of heat. Easy access inside these cases is important, especially with valve equipment as over time those valves will need quick and easy replacement.
If you can imagine a case with each vertical side (front/rear/left & right sides) having a small lip near the top of the panel, this lip can be folded metal or a strip of L shaped Aluminium is added all around the sides near the topmost part of each sheet.
These clips slide over that L shaped lip (where a hole has been predrilled) and then the clip provides a threaded hole for the topmost panel (such as a lid) to be secured to the case but also easily removed if need be. Usually 6 ~ 8 clips are used on each case, it depends upon how tight and securely you want the topmost panel to be held in place. In a nutshell, this clip removes the need to "tap" any of the securing bolt holes because the clip has a thread already.
Now on with the specific details ...
THREADED PANEL CLIPS (1) - HARDWARE SPARE PART
Material: Spring metal clip, probably Iron because it is Ferro magnetic
The small bolt is Chrome plated with a countersunk "slot" head
The bolt is 6mm length x 2mm diameter along the thread (type of thread is unknown) and the head measures 4.5mm.
The clip is a rectangular shape, a bit like a U piece of folded spring metal with a central threaded hole. This clip measures 9.5mm x 11.5mm
The clip is intended to be used with sheet metal panels up to a maximum of 0.75mm thickness
The clip has been "treated" or has a coating of some kind, although it is Iron the colour is a Gold/Green colouring - I presume this is to prevent or greatly reduce the chances of rust or oxidisation of the clip (I have never seen these become rusted)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO damage to the clip nor the bolt
NO reduction in the "spring action" of the clip
These are offered individually as I felt this was the best way - each constructor will have their own ideas on how many they may wish to use on a case.
No matter how many are purchased, these will be supplied in a labelled, clear plastic packet.
