HISTORY:
We are cleaning out our "overgrown" collection of English (mainly) chinaware because we have quality chinaware coming out of our ears! Some pieces/collections have been kept but others must find new homes to accommodate our latest passion - fine, artistic chinaware (hand painted of course)
Founded in 1867, Taylor and Kent Ltd produced Bone China tableware at Florence Works, Longton. From around 1960 they started to use the trade name Elizabethan and in 1982 the business changed its name to Elizabethan Fine Bone China Ltd.
Throughout the 1980s Elizabethan Fine Bone China was a large scale producer of tea and tablewares.
This is yet another of our trio's looking very lonely and seeking a new home to live it and wishing be enjoyed once again (don't we all!) We have far too much fine china and my wife is hell bent on collecting more very special pieces so something has to give - we don't have the space any longer!
To offer the utmost flexibility, each piece is being offered individually (because from experience often only one piece is needed by others and not a complete set or trio) HOWEVER you can use the drop down menu on the front page and select ALL items if you wish to purchase the complete trio (and a discount is automatically applied in this case) ... assuming that someone hasn't already bought just one or two pieces beforehand.
ELIZABETHAN (TAYLOR & KENT) - Side Plate/Saucer/Teacup Set (Trio offered separately)
Made In England
Price indicated is for EACH PIECE, however if all three pieces are selected then an automatic discount does apply in the checkout
1980's ~ 1990's
Fine China
Tradename: Elizabethan
Pattern: Swiss Cottage
Bright White base china with a wide two colour (Pale Yellow & Brown) band around the outer rim of all pieces. No other graphics or artwork with the exception of extensive Gold gilded scroll work overlaid onto the band of colours, around the rims and in the case of the teacup, down both sides of the handle (not the back of the handle)
The saucer & side plate central area is just bright White with no central gilding or artwork - this is very sensible as the centre of the piece experiences the most wear n tear.
Gold gilding to the outer edge, top rim of each piece
Translucent, meaning if any of the pieces are held up to a strong light source you can see the shadows of your fingers through the china
Background colouring is a brilliant white
The backstamp indicates these pieces have been HAND DECORATED which we have always presumed relates to the Gold gild work
BACKSTAMPS:
Makers mark printed on the base of the teacup (under the glaze)
Makers mark printed on the base of the saucer (under the glaze)
Makers mark printed on the base of the side plate (under the glaze)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
This first section of the condition report is universal to all three pieces, any difference or flaws are below this section
NO cracks
NO chips
NO crazing
NO wear showing to the Gold gilded scroll work, not even the teacup handle (which is often the most susceptible area to wear by the user's fingers - nothing observed at all.
NO discolouration observed to the base china, pale Yellow & Brown banding
TEACUP:
Back of the handle has a little mark or dot, after examining this very closely I can see this is actually a tiny Gold speck - it left the factory this way.
SAUCER:
On the underside it has this curious little Brown coloured "lump", at first I thought this was a fleabite but no because it is raised up from the china - it looks to have been present when it left the works. The Brown would be due to some past bacterial infection (now sterilised with Alcohol to ensure this area is stable and does not colour any further)
SIDE PLATE:
Again, like the saucer, this has one of those tiny little raised spots - an imperfection in the china. This one is not nearly so "Brown" in colour but I have sterilised it anyway.
