HISTORY:
My previous business for 25+ years was audio post production but there was a time when I considered moving into the world of video. I collected together a lot of interesting (but retro) equipment and thought that one day we might press them into service but in the end, the video side of things never happened because we were far too busy dealing with audio.
Since those days I have had this equipment sitting in my storage units and finally I have had the chance to dig them out, fire them up and get an idea of their condition.
The following description details brief info about what the equipment is designed to do, what the cosmetic condition is like and some limited testing...read on
SONY Video Colour Corrector
Made in Japan
Model: XV-5000CE
PAL video format
240V ~ (Australian) input via a fixed lead
I cannot locate a User Manual here or online - Sony or elsewhere but quite frankly, from my very brief look at the equipment I would judge this equipment to be extremely simple to use.
Estimated to have been released to the market in the early 1990's (based on the analog technology and electronic design/construction techniques)
In a nutshell this device is designed to accept one video/audio source and one camera source and then either invert the video signal or make user adjustments to the colour balance of the video signal using a front panel horizontally mounted joystick.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
Front panel, sides and rear are in great condition - no issues
The top of the casing has seen some light dents (I must admit I did not store this equipment very well and the top of the case has suffered as a result) I have included a photograph inside to show that there is no physical damage internally (and I like to look at these things anyway!)
All connectors on the rear panel are clean and shiny
TESTING:
As mentioned in another advertisement I have for some Panasonic AV Mixer equipment, my world is audio and not video. This means my video sources are extremely limited but I did manage some basic testing of this equipment (much more than "hey! it turns on!)
No having a camera to suit, that input has not been tested at all
This is an extremely easy to use device.
On the front panel, select the input source (Camera or Video)
Enable Negative or Positive
Enable the Colour Enhancer - it can be switched in and out of the signal path using this switch
Front panel has two rotary controls, one is for setting the Level and the other CHROMA
Next along on the front panel is the Colour Corrector ON-OFF and Range control (controls the colour range/sensitivity of the joystick)
On the rear panel are the expected inputs and outputs (with the exception of the camera input which is on the front panel)
All inputs/outputs are via RCA sockets
There are also two sockets for connection to a Tally light (a Tally light is a small signal-lamp on a professional video camera or monitor used in studios to indicate the signal source selected)
There are also two slide switches, a 3 position switch labelled NEGA Mode and the other 2 position switch is labelled WHITE CLIP ON-OFF
There are no fans, just a large heatsink on the rear panel - very quiet operation
Powers up fine and I selected the video signal source at the rear (all I had to hand was a Blu Ray DVD player - composite output). I had a "normal" video picture on my test monitor. I then enabled the enhancer and colour correction and I was easily able to completely change the colour of the whole image - I don't believe this equipment can be used to change parts of an image, just the overall video signal.
I am a bit perplexed why there is even the stereo audio inputs and outputs, there is certainly no control of these audio signals via the unit and they appear to be simply pass-through style - anyway, they work also as I had good clean audio.
I could not discover any issues with the equipment so I am happy to state that it is 100% functional.
Here is a video of this model colour corrector in action - this unit I am offering performs exactly the same
The video is not mine, just something I found online that I thought could be helpful to interested people
