HISTORY:
I have been sorting and clearing out a large amount of components and equipment "gathered" over the years, now it is time to sort out some power supplies.
Here is yet another one of them ...
This isn't your "ordinary" linear or SMPS unit but intended for use only with terristrial television receivers that use an external amplifier to "boost" the received signal. Useful in situations where the television signal is very weak at the antenna and needs amplifying before being sent down to the television. The amplifier is called a "masthead" amplifier and to function, it needs power. Just to make it clear, this is just the power supply ONLY which supplies low voltage AC "up" to the amplifier, this unit is NOT the amplifier.
The solution to providing power up to the masthead amplifier is using one of these power supplies as they are designed to allow the television signal from the antenna to the television while at the same time, the required power for the masthead amplifier is also supplied on the same cable - sort of like superimposing the power onto the signal cable. Because this power supply is specifically designed for this purpose, it is not going to be much good for other equipment power requirements, the main limitation is the relatively low currents that can be supplied, approximately 100mA maximum.
NOTE: Double check that your masthead amplifier requires 22V AC (approximately) and if your amplifier varies significantly from this voltage, best not to consider this unit.
GME/KINGRAY - Masthead Amplifier Power Supply
Also referred to as "coax power injectors" or similar
Country of manufacture is not indicated
Both GME & Kingray are well known in the communications industry but I strongly suspect this equipment is made in China
Technology: AC power supply (NOT DC)
Nominal output: 22V @ 100mA maximum
Model: PSK02
Input: 240V AC (Standard Australian wall plug pack)
Twin core lead from the plug pack to the "injection" box, this lead is 1.85 metre in length
The injector has the two ports clearly marked, ANTENNA and TELEVISION
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO damage at all to the plug pack/pins or the injector
NO damage to the twin core lead at all
TESTING:
Checked the AC output voltage at both ports.
Antenna port I read 25.5V AC with no load (no preamplifier in other words)
Television port does have a low AC voltage present (7V AC) which in normal situations should not create any issues.
After the photograph session and testing, this power supply has now been placed within a sealed clear plastic package to maintain the condition.
