Experiment! Use some imagination! - adaptable to other equipment, please read below
SONY Footswitch
Model: FS-85
In normal operation this footswitch has 3 microswitches, LEFT - CENTRE - RIGHT
Designed for use with the Sony Transcribers however with a little ingenuity, this footswitch is adaptable to other purposes where foot control of equipment is required.
Inside the very strong, well constructed casing (built to last many many "foot stomps") is a small PCB upon which is 3x micro pressure switches and some simple switching based on one transistor.
No need to sort out the switching, useable outputs are available at the connector exactly as it is supplied.
Test Results:
Setting the transistor switch aside, I get usable signals out at the connector for "FOOT SWITCH LEFT" and "FOOT SWITCH RIGHT"
At the male JRC plug it changes from open circuit to around 200 Ohms when operated.
With some simple modifications, the centre switch closed could also be bought out to the connector, at the moment the transistor switch gets in the way (changes when closed circuit but to only around 10K or so)
At the special JRS connector, the signals from the switches are available as follows:
Common: pin 12
Left ON: pin 9
Right ON: pin 4
So you use your foot to press down on the left side of the footswitch, pins 12 & 9 are shorted or close to it (200 or so Ohms) conversely, pushing your foot to the right shorts pins 12 & 4
Access inside the footswitch is relatively simple but I could not easily get the cover off the JRS connector and so left the plug alone.
Of course it is still fully functional with Sony Transcribers (I see these footswitchs selling online for up to US$90!!)
