Ex workshop spare parts and small manufacturing stock
ALL components I am offering have been sourced through reputable local & International distributors such as RS Electronics, Farnell (Element 14), WES and Rockby (Victoria)
This rotary switch assembly is very high quality and quite specialised. Still a stock item over at the RS Electronics website in UK (where we purchased them from originally)
I have given a description (below) of how to use these assemblies, they are not your "ordinary everyday" rotary switches!
This advertisement is for the electrical part of the switch assembly, a rotary module if you like to think of it like that ...
The vital mechanical side of things is HERE ... this electrical module and the mechanical unit "go" with each other, one is useless without the other. just how many of each you need will depend upon your design requirements.
ELEKTRO BAUELEMENTE (Germany) - Rotary Switch Module
Made in Germany
Marketed through RS Electronics
RS Part# 327-709
One of the best engineered rotary switch assemblies available (and often with pricing to reflect this!)
To save me copying all the electrical information, here is a snapshot from the datasheet
ACTION: Rotary 12 positions with continuous rotation (under control of the RS-327-686 mechanical section HERE
There is NO rotary wiper, each switch sequentially turns ON as the switch centre hole is rotated, of course you could connect all one side of the switches together and create a "pseudo wiper" but the switch is far more flexible when each position is electrically isolated from any other position.
Effectively this switch can be thought of as a 12x SPST miniature switch with ROTARY activation of the switches
But wait! that's not all ... (no bread knives though!)
Mechanically this switch is designed to slide onto the RS 327-686 mechanical mechanism which allows the user to create any number of "stop" positions (from 12 down to just 2 positions) AND these modules can be stacked onto the RS 327-686 to created a "massive stacked multi-position switch" Nice!
Typically the RS 327-686 would be stacked with up to 3 of these switch modules, providing up to 12 positions, creating 36x SPST switches across 12 positions, all of which are all independent electrically.
Sealed switch module - you cannot open it without destruction!
PCB pin terminations (24) in a standard DIL arrangement
DIMENSIONS:
Switch Body: 30mm length x 11.25mm wide x 9.75mm height
Two rows of gold plated PCB pins are 8mm apart, each pin being 2.1mm apart within a row
COSMETIC CONDITION:
BRAND NEW Old Stock
Clean and undamaged physically
This switch has been packed onto an ESD foam base (great stuff to protect the PCB pins) and is then sealed in clear plastic, individually.
HOW TO USE:
Mechanically these switches simply slide on the RS 327-686 shaft and are then held in position with very small, threaded brass spacers.
I am ONLY supplying the electrical switch module, the spacers you need are supplied with the mechancial assembly RS 327-686 HERE
Electrically there is no mystery to the contact layout, as each position is selected one pair of PCB pins is shorted - these active contacts are situated opposite each other - easy to figure out (I have come across switches which have some very strange connection arrangements, this is not one of those)
Overall, you could consider these mechanical and electrical sections as a high quality, flexible "kitset" rotary switch system but without the traditional wiper.
