Ex workshop spare parts and small manufacturing stock
ALL components I am offering have been sourced through reputable local & International distributors such as RS Electronics, Farnell (Element 14), WES and Rockby (Victoria)
This rotary switch assembly is very high quality and quite specialised. Still a stock item over at the RS Electronics website in UK (where we purchased them from originally)
I have given a description (below) of how to use these assemblies, they are not your "ordinary everyday" rotary switches!
This advertisement is for the mechanical section of the switch assembly, there is NO electrical functioning of this part. While digging up photographs etc online I noticed even the distributor called these "switches" - they are NOT, but do form a critical part of the RS 327-709 switch assembly. Without this mechanical section, the electrical part of the switch is useless!
The electrical switching module is HERE ... this electrical module and the mechanical unit "go" with each other, one is useless without the other. just how many of each you need will depend upon your design requirements.
ELEKTRO BAUELEMENTE (Germany) - Rotary Switch Module
Made in Germany
Marketed through RS Electronics
RS Part# 327-686
Mechanical section only
One of the best engineered rotary switch assemblies available (and often with pricing to reflect this!)
ACTION: Notched multi-position shaft, a maximum of 12 positions (used in conjuction with the RS-327-709 electrical modules HERE
The indenting for each position is ball bearing based, solid locking into each position
Fully user adjustable, if you remove the two front nuts and the metal washer this exposes the locking pins (2 fitted). These push fit into the extremely tiny holes (12 of them) around the shaft so you can choose how many positions the switch will move. Remove those pins and the rotation is 12 position with no stop. Removal and insertion of the stop pins is best undertaken with fine needle nose pliers, we are talking ultra small here!
The longer "rear" shaft has two flat sides, you slide on your RS 327-709's and secure them with extremely small threaded brass spacers.
The "front end" of the shaft is round, no flat spot, so you will need to use a decent collet knob or similar to control this component.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
BRAND NEW Old Stock
Clean and undamaged physically
This mechanical component is packed and will be supplied in the original RS packaging.
DIMENSIONS:
Body: 30mm length x 11.25mm wide x 9.75mm height (Yes, identical to the switches that slide onto the rear shaft)
Front shaft: Round metal 4mm diameter x 19mm length
Rear shaft: Metal with two flat sides (to fit inside the electrical switches) 60mm length
Two mounting holes on the underside metal plate, 17mm apart (threaded)
Two different length spacers are available and one set is included with each RS 327-709 switch i.e if you buy two switches, I will supply 2x spacer sets.
Spacer lengths I have available are: 11.25mm & 22.5mm - as a guide, the photograph with one switch mounted is using the 11.25mm spacer
I do not sell the spacers by themselves, ONLY with this mechanical unit in combo with one or more switch modules
However, I do also have some spare "stop pins" and front nuts, just ask if you would like these - everything here is VERY small and it is easy to lose something (particularly those stop pins)
HOW TO USE:
I have included an extract from the manufacturers installation guide but some aspects of the information may not be clear.
You need to CAREFULLY remove two tiny nuts at the rear. You can now screw on the desired spacer (screws directly onto the nut thread left exposed when the nut is removed). Now CAREFULLY slide your RS 327-709 switch module(s) down the shaft and fix in position using the required spacers and finally a screw(s).
You should now have a unit that looks something like the one I have photographed (single switch fitted)
WARNING: When you initially remove the 2x nuts DO NOT EVER try and remove the spacer at the rear! Inside is a very small ball bearing and two even smaller springs, they will go flying across the room if you are not careful!
Mechanically these switches simply slide on the RS 327-686 shaft and are then held in position with very small, threaded brass spacers.
Overall, you could consider these mechanical and electrical sections as a high quality, flexible "kitset" rotary switch system but without the traditional wiper.
