NEW Old Stock
Ex our production stores, our audio production business has now closed down (retired) and all the stock must find new owners
Never heard of or used a polyswitch?
Think of them like a fuse but they "mend" themselves when the fault condition is removed (after a period time) so the need to replace a "blown" fuse is removed.
Not the fastest of devices, quite slow when reacting to over currents and once the over current condition is removed, very slow to "repair themselves"
Often used in electronics where the location of components (e.g power supply) within the equipment being protected would make it difficult to extract and replace a fuse and also commonly in high power audio loudspeaker systems, particularly tweeter protection - the polyswitch protects the tweeter and if is "driven" too hard (too much current through the tweeter) the polyswitch goes high resistance, protecting the tweeter and allowing the rest of the loudspeaker system to operate as normal albeit without the high frequencies! At least you still have sound .... after a while, the polyswitch goes low resistance again and the tweeter comes back "on line"
