Check room sound characteristics or measure definitely the sound levels being generated by neighbouring properties
Audio Frequency Sound Level Meter
Model Q1362
Generic Chinese made
Very useful to check sound levels quickly and easily but NOT calibrated and of limited professional use.
Useful for "on-the-spot" sound leve checks but it would be unwise to use any readings as evidence in court proceedings!
It is not indicated anywhere that it meets Australian design standards, in fact no standards are mentioned such as IEC 61672-1:2002 or BS EN 61672-1:2003 so indicated measurements of this instrument should only be considered a guide.
Great for checking the effectiveness of sound baffling or absorption materials, general audio noise from adjoining properties.
Remember that to effectively use the instrument outdoors, you should fit a windshield over the microphone to stop wind noise creating false readings (Wind shield is NOT supplied)
BASIC FUNCTIONS AVAILABLE:
MAX HOLD: The MAX HOLD function freezes the display at the level of the loudest detected sound for a given period
RECORD: the unit can record and store the minimum and maximum levels detected over a given period
MEASUREMENT RANGE: from 40dB to 130dB
NOISE WEIGHTING: A or C selectable
3.5 Digit LCD readout with analog bar showing actual audio detected
Headphone socket on the side so you can listen to the sound being detected/measured
FAST - SLOW MEASUREMENT: Speed of reading can be adjusted to suit various audio sources
Inbuilt battery check facility - 9V battery
I can find no information about the design frequency range but I would assume that this would be designed to be useful from low Hz up to the 20Khz range - "normal" hearing audio range, there is also no information on the linearity of measurement across the frequency range.
Tripod mounting screw socket for easy fixed location mounting.
I do NOT have the operating manual any longer although I can supply some basic operating guidelines which are relevant to this instrument. It is pretty straightforward in setting up and the LCD screen tells you what is going on.
Cosmetically clean and with no damage to the case or screen
TESTING:
Tested, all functions are operating correctly and this includes the manual headphone monitoring.
Maximum Hold is probably the most useful feature if you are measuring music sources as the levels vary considerably, unless you use a single tone source for measurements.
