HISTORY:
Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything (that has been tested and still functioning properly) should be repurposed creating saving in wasted Ee and reducing the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.
Never heard of Ee? It is a concept that creates a measurement of ALL things (not just electronics) that humans have made and the energy used in obtaining the raw material, processing the materials right through to a finished product and even should include the shipping of the item to the distributors/retailers.
If you would like to know more about Ee values, please take a look HERE
This cable is another of my "what on earth was this used with?" types, no branding on the connectors nor the sheath. It looks to have been intended for a peripheral IT device.
I have tested the interconnects from one end to the other, this may help someone to determine if this cable could be useful to them ... please see below in the description for details.
UNIDENTIFIED UNBRANDED - Interface Lead
Country of origin is unknown
Sheath colour: Black
Round cable, 5mm diameter sheath, moulded connectors at each end
DIN 8 pin male ~ D25 female
DIN 8 connector is the type with 7 pins around the outside and a central pin
NOT a mini DIN connector such as Apple used
D25 female connector has an end protector cap fitted
Lead length is 3.5 metre
I strongly suspect this was used with some type of IT peripheral device, I have seen the old Commodore C64's used the DIN standard for various outputs, including an 8 pin type for video/audio but I don't think this cable is an AV cable, the D25 doesn't fit the picture properly!
Metal bodies of both connectors are connected to each other & D25 pin 1
D25 - 1 (connected to outer metal body at each end
D25 - 2 NC
D25 - 3 (connected to DIN pin 4)
D25 - 4 (connected to DIN pin 5)
D25 - 5 (connected to DIN pin 7)
D25 - 6 (connected to DIN pin 8)
D25 - 7 (connected to DIN pin 3)
D25 - 8 (connected to DIN pin 2)
D25 - 9 ~ 19 are all NC
D25 - 20 (connected to DIN pin 6)
D25 - 21 ~ 25 are all NC
* NC means No Connection
COSMETIC CONDITION:
