Widely replaced by the 1N4148 although the specifications are very similar, some say identical. I have no idea about the F suffix though, I have hunted through the various manufacturer datasheets and none mention the 1N914F, most common is the A or B suffix
The diodes I have are clearly (very small print though!) marked
1N 914F
Possibly the F is indicating it is a Fairchild device but I really don't know
