As removed from radio receiver equipment
Variable capacitor - mechanical
Manufacturer unknown
Known to date from the late 60's - early 70's
Most likely to be of Japanese origin
Marked on one end as:
9-20450
Stamped into one end is:
ISO
5 gang
Component dimensions:
BODY - 62mm depth x 37mm wide x 30mm height
SHAFT - 18mm long x 6mm diameter with no flat spot. Usually a large pulley will be attached to this shaft, tuning being made via a pulley arrangement.
NO mounting bolts are included
Capacitance has been measured and the results are below.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
This component is in excellent condition.
No deforming of the vanes - no bends and absolutely no touching of the vanes during rotation
No corrosion
All aluminum construction using phenolic resin insulation strips for the terminal substrate
TESTING:
This variable capacitor has 5 gangs
Gang 1: 0 - 10pF
Gang 2: 0 - 350pF
Gang 3: 0 - 10pF
Gang 4: 0 - 350pF
Gang 5: 0 - 10pF
These are actual test results and during testing there is no shorting of plates/vanes during rotation on any gang.
Shaft movement is smoothly and does not stick
Ball bearing shaft
This appears to have been designed for a AM/MF/HF/VHF receiver front-end tuned circuit, the larger capacitances for MF and the smaller capacitances for VHF i.e domestic receiver however this variable capacitor could be used in many other RF tuned circuit projects.
Stored and supplied in a sealed plastic bag
