Fully functioning Technics SA-104 Stereo Receiver has been "parted out" due to extensive casing damage.
This part from the receiver is suitable for use with other equipment (check physical compatibility though) or as a "general purpose" variable capacitor.
Variable Capacitor
Matsushita Japan
Part #: ECV-5MD34X71G
5 gang with integrated trimmer cap for each gang
Very nice high quality build from Matsushita (National)
All metal construction other than the green insulating blocks for the solder connections and the two movement gears.
PCB mount
Geared, fluted control shaft (15mm long)
5 Ball bearing movement
Pretty stock standard variable capacitor as used in many analog AM/FM receivers of days gone by. The unique features of this variable capacitor are the high quality design/build and the relatively small footprint.
Being small, the vanes (particularly the AM section(s) are extremely close together - it is vital that they never touch!
I have measured the capacitance of each gang, the larger gangs are 0 - 50pF and the 2x gangs with very close vane spacing are 0 - 330pF
I also checked each gang carefully for any signs of shorting during the full rotation - all gangs are fine.
Trimmers are mounted on the top of the variable capacitor (easy access for adjustments)
MEASUREMENTS:
PCB Mounting footprint: 51mm x 30mm
Seven lugs are available for through-hole mounting/soldering on the PCB
Variable capacitor height off the PCB is 45mm
Variable capacitor width is 30mm
Variable capacitor length is 53mm to each edge of the frame but then extends a further 30mm to the end of the shaft.
The shaft is 1/4" fluted/split type - brass material
Gearing is plastic, no teeth damage.
When used in the Technics SA-104 and in conjunction with the flywheel pulley system, the physical tuning "feel" of the receiver is extremely smooth without backlash - a most impressive manual tuning control system. I have the tuning pulleys, flywheel, dial cord etc listed as a separate item.
Packed in a protective sealed plastic bag with the vanes CLOSED
