HISTORY:
Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything (that has been tested and still functioning properly) should be repurposed creating saving in wasted Ee and reducing the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.
Never heard of Ee? It is a concept that creates a measurement of ALL things (not just electronics) that humans have made and the energy used in obtaining the raw material, processing the materials right through to a finished product and even should include the shipping of the item to the distributors/retailers.
If you would like to know more about Ee values, please take a look HERE
This electrolytic capacitor is NEW, old stock from the world's largest aluminium electrolytic capacitor manufacturer, NIPPON CHEMI-CON
As this is brand new (but old stock) equipment spare part
It is IMPORTANT to read my information page about both new AND old stock electrolytic capacitors ... please go HERE
These capacitors are intended for general industrial applications, particularly power supplies with muscle!
Like so many "I know everything forums" online, I have read some absolute "dribble" regarding electronic component manufacturers from those who appear to have no engineering or technical background at all (a bit like the Twitter of the electronic discussion groups)
ALL of the electro's I am clearing out of our workshops have served us well over the years, it is NOT just the manufacturer that is important - storage conditions, circuit design and so many other criteria are also very important for the reliability of any electronic component. Take a high quality capacitor such as an Siemens, EPCOS, Spraque and put them in a badly designed circuit and they will go "poof" just like any other capacitor.
Go to the horses "mouth" HERE is a link to Nippon Chemical Co. (Japanese corporate headquarters), this is one VERY LARGE corporation (5.7 Trillion Yen turnover on their last figures) or more pertinent is their aluminium capacitors division HERE
NIPPON CHEMI-CON - Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitor (1)
Type: SME Series
Vented top side
Endurance rated at 2000 Hours MTBF @ 85°C
Temperature rating: 85°C
Value: 4700uF 250V DC
Tolerance: +/- 20%
Termination: Screw terminals
Chassis mounting (base down) clamp is included
DIMENSIONS: 64mm Diameter x 101mm Height (Large "fatty")
WEIGHT: 500g (! told you these were for grunty = heavy power supplies)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
NEW Old Stock
Always stored in the original distributors packaging (small brown box in a "bed" of bubblewrap)
Undamaged in any way
Stored with Al foil across the top terminals, although unlikely to build up a charge you would not want to be touching those terminals if the capacitor is fully charged!
TESTING:
Not really necessary but I was curious as we have had these for quite a while, awaiting a "purpose in life"
I have NOT "pre-conditioned" the electro's properly prior to testing, I just wanted to take a quick look at the measured results but I did notice that after making a reading, then "forming" the capacitor for a short time, the capacitance does slowly increase.
Capacitor A: 4350uF ESR: 0.89 Loss 0.9%
Capacitor B: 4350uF ESR: 0.88 Loss 0.89%
Yes, both electrolytics measured exactly the same value when tested.
Both capacitors, even without pre-conditioning, are well withing the manufacturer tolerance specifications
