Ex Military Aviation (70's) VHF/UHF Preamp Module for parts

These modules are an ex military (aviation) from BAE (British Aerospace Electronics)

Dated technology but possibly still of interest to those who like to design/experiment with receivers in VHF/UHF radio spectrum

The module comprises 3 active components.

The front end transistor is a bit of a mystery, its extremely difficult to read the markings but it appears to be

M24 2582 or possibly 2382

4 lead, TO72 package

I would hazard a guess at this being a Mil spec FET device but search as I might, I have been unable to positively identify this device.

The next 2 devices are easier to read and are Mil spec UHF devices

2N2857 JAN level (reliability) is not readable on the can

Basic specifications are Bipolar NPN Silicon TO72 with useable gain to 500Mhz

Vce 15V
Vcb 30V
Ic 40mA

I would suggest either trying to retune to your frequencies of interest or simply removing the active devices for your own design.

Other items of interest are a couple of nice ceramic trim cap's - the passive components couldn't be relied on after all these years and are nothing special anyway.

Comes in a completely enclosed metal casing which is easy to disassemble and perhaps even house your own project.

This module casing measures 97mm x 47mm x 24mm high

I have two units, one has the case screws missing (commonly available) and the other unit is complete and with the matching plug for the DC supply input.

Just to show how prices on old electronic gear plummet due to aging technology, these modules used to be on the market for around $2000 each !! but this was a around 30 - 40 years ago....
