Ex communications equipment (specifically Philips) but of course useable anywhere that you need a good secure knob to fit a small diameter shaft that has no other means of securing a knob (i.e no need for a grub screw(s) or 'flat spot)
Collet knobs are often used in high quality equipment because there is no spline fitting or grub screws which can become loose over time.
These knobs have an all metal centre (in this case aluminium) fitting which grips the control shaft tightly when end nut is tightened.
To access this collet knob 'internals' ...
The plastic knob is 'pull off' i.e it is a friction fit
This reveals the metal collet system, unscrew the brass nut and this allows the grip to release from the component shaft. Refitting this collet knob is the reverse procedure.
