Famous historical icon of the 1950's - Australia's very own domestic radio receiver
HMV Little Nipper
AM Band domestic broadcast receiver
Model Audio output transformer
IN NEED OF RESTORATION
This well preserved mantle radio needs electronic restoration.
Absolutely original condition inside, no upgrades or modifications
Note that this is the model with the 6M5 output valve (some of these used 6AQ5's and others, 6M5's)
All tubes are supplied fitted although UNTESTED
Most likely those paper electro's will need replacing and of course the audio output transformer, probably best to spend sometime checking all of the passive components.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
This is a burgundy/cream coloured plastic case - not bakelite.
Complete with both of the original knobs and the HMV Little Nipper badge is still attached
The front grille (cream plastic) is undamaged
Overall, the case is very clean and unmarked EXCEPT for one crack to the top-right-rear corner - its not terrible but it is noticeable.
Love the glass station indicator panel - no frequencies anywhere, just all of the station callsigns and broken down into Australian States
TESTING:
I have undertaken no electrical/electronic testing at this stage. I intended to restore this radio some years ago and it just ended up sitting safely tucked away in the cupboard
Compliment of major components (all fitted - nothing removed)
Valves:
6M5
6X4
6AV6
6BA6
6BE6
Speaker is the original HMV 5 PC, paper cone and it is still serviceable.
Glass front station indicator is unbroken and very clean
Dial cord is intact and moves correctly as it is tuned
Variable capacitor vanes are straight and not shorting
AC Power transformer (9040004) is fully functional and in good condition
ALL passive components probably will need replacing after almost 70 years! No obvious damage but certainly the paper caps will be suspect for sure.
It is even fitted with the original HPM BAKELITE power plug
The most obvious damage is the audio output transformer, it certainly has fried itself - way too much current has been passing through this and it has now failed. A replacement output transformer is needed but also the new owner will need to discover the component(s) that have failed to cause this excessive current flow.
I will supply the technical information for this receiver, this includes ALL voltages at each valve, resistance to chassis at various points and normal current flows plus the complete IF alignment procedure, full parts list, schematic and parts layout diagram - all of this information will greatly assist in a restoration undertaking.
A nice piece of Australian domestic radio receiver history and in pretty good condition - it just needs someone to give it some love and attention to bring it back to life.
This radio receiver will be supplied completely re-assembled, the photographs were taken while still dismantled (as it was in the cupboard)
