HISTORY OF THIS BATTERY CHARGER
My professional and private background is all about electronics, audio and 'The Arts' but NOT photography or consumer video!
Over the years, I have gathered together a bunch of ancient/retro camera's and accessories (some are very odd looking), not for any particular reason but these bits and pieces seemed to want to live with me! They have been sitting in boxes for years, so I am now testing them (where possible) and finding new homes for them ... time for the "kids" to leave home!
I am big on sustainability and I am hoping very much that someone else may find a use for the accessory described below.
I am not an expert on this equipment but I do like to describe anything I offer as best I can, PLEASE read the description below to read about my comments on this item, whether it works (if I can test it) and my overall impression of the item.
In all cases, this item is offered as a second hand item in 'AS-IS' condition
For those wondering, my old film based camera's (Box Brownies, Bellows types and more) have all found new homes and only a couple of Hi8, and old PANASONIC VHS Handycam plus another PANASONIC shoulder mounting camera (Yes, it sits on your shoulder like a parrot!) if and when I can find it.
PLEASE read the description below completely and decide if this SONY AC Power Adaptor may be of interest to you.
I actually have just used this adaptor to make some quick tests of the Hi8 TRV24E Handycam listed HERE - while this adaptor is NOT recommended for use with that TRV24E Handycam, it suited my test purposes for a very short period of time. See below for the Handycam's THIS adapter does suit use with ...
SONY - AC Power Adaptor
Genuine SONY product
Singapore market release (2x round pins for the input) - I will supply the multi-standard AC plug adaptor (White Digitor) that you can see in the photograph(s)
This AC power lead is FIXED to the adapter, you cannot just unplug it and substitute another AC input lead
AC input lead is 1.8 metres long
100 ~ 240V 50/60Hz AC input (International standards)
Technology: Switchmode
Model: AC-V30
Output: 10V @ 1.3A & 7.5V @ 1.6A
Made in Japan
Charging station for 2 terminal camera Li-ion batteries & DC power output for the video equipment
Charges the NP-55, NP-77 and possibly other SONY batteries
Nominally supplies 10V @ 1.3A to the battery charger section and 7.5V @ 1.6A DC to the camera *** See my test measurements below ***
DC output to the camera is via an ordinary DC socket located on the top of the adapter and connects to the Handycam via a 2 metre cable which has a "pretend battery" at the far end. This unit neatly fits into the back of the handcam - just like you had installed a battery.
It appears that quite a few of the SONY 8mm camera's used this type of DC input and charging system, look for camcorders that have no DC input socket AND the voltage required is 7.2 ~ 7.5V DC @ 1.6A maximum current requirements.
Plastic body
Weight: 600g (Adapter, lead and AC plug adaptor)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO body damage at all (no cracks or pieces missing!) to the main adapter, the "pseudo battery" and the AC plug adaptor
NO damage to either the AC lead or DC lead
Both battery charging spring contacts are clean and undamaged
TESTING:
I have no battery with which to test this unit charging abilities and when the battery contact points are measured, I measure 7.3V - this is much lower than the stated 10V output although it could be that when the adaptor "sees" a battery installed, the circuit lifts this voltage up to 10V for charging the battery.
The DC output measures 7.2V and was used to quickly test the SONY TRV24E advertised separately, no issues at all.
I am confident that this SONY AC-V30 Video Camera battery charger & DC Handycam power supply is fully functioning, even though I could not confirm the battery charging side of things.
Now the I have finished testing and describing this accessory, it is now sealed in a clear plastic packet, along with the pseudo battery lead and the AC plug adaptor - waiting for a new owner who would like to "play around" with Hi8
