My Sansui DA-P500 turntable was a fully functioning turntable, albiet a "budget" model, but the lid was no longer useful so I have now parted out the useful parts of the turntable, all tested prior to dismantling.
My Sansui DA-500 is now an "organ donor", sacrificed so that other turntables may live again! So a noble turntable!
I am very "big" on sustainability, re-using or re-purposing equipment (no matter how trivial or old it may be) because a LOT of EE (Embodied Energy) was used to create this module and to throw something like this away, poison our landfill etc is just so irresponsible and such a waste of expended energy. Everything we humans have created required energy (and raw materials) for it's creation and often that amount of energy (EE value) is surprisingly high. So after using those raw materials and expending considerable energy to create an item, we then throw it away! Such terrible wastage.
Anyway, here is the complete details of this DC servo drive system for the DA-P500
Sansui DA-P500 direct drive turntable (SPARE PART)
Parts offered (as pictured):
DC Servo drive system
Part # S-0121
Complete PCB with all motor components including the top permanent magnet/spindle etc
Module weight: 450g complete or 250g with the permanent magnet assembly removed
Dimensions: 102mm wide x 181mm length x 80mm height (to the spindle top)
Also included are the 3x mounting screws
DETAIL:
The DC Servo motor control system allows for rotational speeds of 45 or 33rpm and is extremely stable
Wow & Flutter 0.038% maximum
4x driving coils (PCB mounted) which interact with the large circular permanent magnet, to which the spindle is attached
15V DC supply (external)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
PCB is undamaged
All components are original and clean
Spindle shaft has clean grease, it may be adviseable to give this a new lube job before installing (not a difficult task)
TESTING:
Prior to this DA-P500 becoming my "sacrificial lamb" I tested the turntable for a number of days without any problems at all.
Speed at both 45 and 33 was "spot on" and required no adjustment.
NOTE: The speed control switch etc is advertised separately to this module and is NOT included.
Motor shaft rotation is smooth
The following information is provided because I noticed that many online were asking how to power these turntables WITHOUT the Sansui system unit, it isn't difficult to organise another power source for these.
These DA-P500 turntables are designed to run off an external (the main system unit) 15V DC supply but you can use any 15V DC supply (regulated, positive to the centre pin of the original DC power plug) that can provide around 1A peak although the measured current requirements are much lower...
Switch on current (rush) is 250mA + (very short duration at power on)
Idle current is 50mA (motor running during normal PLAY)
Automatic tonearm operation lifts the current up to 100mA maximum
This DC Servo control board/motor is running exactly as designed.
Since removal, I have now carefully packed and sealed this assembly in sealed plastic to keep out dust.
