Although an "average" turntable, lots of whizz bang for it's day
Perfectly fine for general record playback with plenty of "whizz bang" features that will amaze your friends
Marantz Linear Turntable
Model: TT530
Released to market 1983
Made in JAPAN
Direct drive platter - no belts
Linear turntable, the tonearm glides smoothly across the record on a guide rail, not your normal pivoted tonearm arrangement.
7" and 12" capable
Auto detects the record size and moves the tone arm to the correct play position
Semi auto play - at the run out area, the arm gently lifts and glides back to the rest position
Full remote control of the turntable via the RC430/RMC-12 control system using the Marantz Easy bus system, the remote unit is not included and advertised separately
This is just great! It looks cool, it is cool and it plays great!
It means that you only need to place the vinyl record on the platter and then leave it alone, all functions such as play, cue, pause and cut are remotely controlled.
The immediate advantage of this system is there will be no lead-in scratches as you try to find the beginning of the record, the turntable takes care of very carefully positioning and lowering the tonearm.
Fitted with the original P mount cartridge
COSMETIC CONDITION:
Just great condition, it looks really nice and has a large WOW! factor
A couple of minor scratches to the body but these are MINOR
NO cracks to the perspex lid
Lid hinges actually work! Lift the lid and it stays there.
TESTING:
Tests made both manually and automatically using the RC430/RMC-12.
Manual controls all perform perfectly, these are:
Speed variation (nice to have)
Speed confirmed with a strobe light system (33 only but at 50Hz or 60Hz)
Speed select - 45 AUTO 33 (normally you would use AUTO but would need to activate 45 if playing a 12" maxi record)
REPEAT - yes this is just like a CD player, you can repeat the album automatically
CUT - kill the current play and return to rest
PLAY - obvious, it starts the play routine
CUE - if your record has a weird run in or run out location, you can safely raise the tonearm and reposition.
NOTE: NOT tested with a 10" diameter vinyl, these are not in common use but some artists do release on 10" - I would guess you might need to manually set the play run-in track yourself (you can do this with any record via the remote system)
Record size is detected by the light system at the rear, very clever setup. If you put your finger over it, suddenly all records are 12"!
Nice smooth tracking across the record, audio is fine - not audiophile but not too bad quality
The linear tracking is also silky smooth, not jerky!
I intentionally used a couple of dodgy records (scratches, light bumps) to check the tracking of the cartridge - very nice, didn't get upset at all.
2x belts are used for the linear tracking, these are fine at the moment but eventually would need replacing, still commonly available for around A$15/set online
The same tests have been made from the remote control system, just wow! sit back in the lounge chair and play, select the track etc - really high tech for the 1980's!
Styli is ok at the moment, it would be a good idea to fit a new one after about 200 hours of play time. These are still readily available
Lid is NOT cracked or otherwise marked, hinges work fine (the lid stays up!)
Power input cable is Australian standard, 2 pin
Audio output (RCA) is via the fixed cable, with an earth wire.
Remote control sockets are also RCA
User manual plus the service manual can be supplied (if required) in pdf format - most would not need this, they are very easy to "drive" - especially when used with the remote, the system really comes into it's own with the remote control system connected.
Shipping is no problem, we pack extremely carefully but if this was being shipped, we will be taking special care to ensure the platter is locked in position AND the tonearm is fixed and not able to flop all over the place!
