Offered for the repair or restoration of old audio equipment such as "stereograms"
Magnavox were manufacturing here in Australia from the 1950's onwards and their products could be found in many locally produced radios, stereograms and television sets of the day.
This loudspeaker came from a very old valve based stereogram
Magnavox (Australia) Elliptical Loudspeaker
64S series featuring the "Magnaflux" marketing slogan
Fully enclosed basket - these were the very early loudspeaker designs with no basket ribs - the magnet is press sealed onto the basket. The whole basket is stamped to the required shape and no access is possible through the rear of the speaker.
Paper cone
4" x 6"
Cork mounting surround
Solder terminals
Nominal impedance 15 Ohms
Power handling is unknown, I cannot find any spec sheets for this speaker release but I would be guessing around 5W RMS maximum.
External frame dimensions: 158mm x 106mm x 60mm deep
Mounting holes are 94mm apart (top/bottom) and 116mm (side/side)
CONDITION:
In very good condition, clean body
Clean cone
NO holes/tears
Cork is not crumbling and securely in place
TESTING:
You couldn't expect any thing special from these speakers and I was not disappointed. Pretty ordinary response but they work and will serve their purpose if fitted into other vintage audio equipment.
DC resistance check made, reading around 14 Ohm which suggests that the design impedance of 15 Ohm is still true
Keep in mind the voice-coil is 15 Ohm impedance (designed originally to be driven via an output transformer from the valve amp audio output)
To maintain the speaker it has now been placed on a stiff cardboard backing (face down) and sealed in plastic - this is how it will be supplied.
