Imported from USA for our workshop spare parts but it was received with a minor defect!
Too heavy to make any return a worthwhile exercise so it has just been sitting on our shelves and now that I am having a BIG cleanup, it is looking for a new home!
NEVER USED, but useable!
So what's wrong with it Mate? (I hear you ask inquisitively)
Technically, NOTHING
Physically, one spring loaded terminal has "popped it's top!" These use a push down terminal which when pushed, opens up the hole for speaker wiring insertion. The little BLACK plastic top button broke and disappeared into the ether somewhere.
Read all about it in my description below ...
MACKIE - Horn Driver Unit (Spare Part)
To suit the Mackie SRM 450 PA Speakers
Part # 0008093 DC10/1701-B
Function: Complete Horn driver unit (no horn of course!)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
LIKE NEW!
There is an issue with one of the spring terminals (push down to expose the hole in the terminal for insertion of the wire). Red terminal is fine, but the Black terminal has "popped it's top" so the spring cannot function correctly. The plastic piece that is now missing is just a circular disc of plastic and it's sole purpose in life is to hold that spring down inside the terminal case.
Two choices to fix this:
a) Undo the hex nuts on the driver and have a go at changing the complete spring terminal
b) find or fashion a small plastic top cap and glue in place. This will hold the spring inside the casing and all will be well with the world! It is not a difficult fix but we were unwilling to place this horn unit in a client's PA system cabinet and used another horn driver instead.
DIMENSIONS:
120mm diameter x 55mm height
WEIGHT:
1.7Kg
TESTING:
As this had been removed from the original box which it was supplied in, I double checked the horn driver today.
Diaphram face (metal gauze) is fine and undamaged.
Some light depressions to the rubber front area, this was caused by lying this unit down on top of a bunch of small diameter audio cables! No damage has occured to the face, it is just depressed!
DC tested the voice coil, 6 Ohm - all is OK here
Nice little horn driver for next to no money and not hard to get it up and working again - but don't forget, you will need a horn as well!
Since inspecting this unit, I have now stored it properly sitting on foam and a stiff cardboard support and completely sealed in plastic - no harm will come to it now!
