Well here is a blast from the past!
Match this extension speaker up with your existing Telecom Attache collection (extremely rare now)
OR
Repurpose the extension speaker to ANY mobile service that requires a 4 Ohm speaker. This is not just any ordinary extension speaker, it has "history" and "class"
Go back, way back to 1987 ...
Telecom released the Attache "briefcase" mobile phone, see the last photograph.
It could be carried around (if you had strong arms and didn't mind the maximum of 20 minutes talk time!) or placed in a cradle for motor vehicle use.
This was really the beginning of truly commercial, mass subscriber mobile services in Australia, AMPS could be considered as our 1G mobile system and being "cutting edge" technology, it was VERY expensive to have one of these portables/mobile phone services.
To buy a Telecom Attache would have cost you around A$4700 plus vehicle installation (optional) AND then there was an access fee to the mobile network of A$600 per year. But wait there's more, you then had to pay for each and every call (which were all charged at standard "toll" rates (STD)
So if you had one of these in your car or struggled carrying one around with you, you had money and lots of it. Not only was it a very useful business tool but a symbol of status. You could quite rightly consider yourself as one of the "cool crowd" if you were seen carrying one of these portables (although you would have an aching arm from the weight - most likened carrying these to having a briefcase full of concrete pavers!)
I have no idea who owned the car this particular extension speaker was installed in, but you can bet they had PLENTY of spare cash!
