Clearing out a few more items of reel to reel memorabilia

Once, I had a large number of various machines (REVOX STUDER OTARI SONY FERROGRAPH and even a tube based AMPEX) - most of the machines have now found new homes although I do still have an early Ferrograph advertised separately.

If you love these old R2R machines, the collection is not complete without some of the marketing blurb that was released at the time to promote the machines.

The technical information is an absolute must for the Otari MX-5050 restoration project

All memorabilia is original (unless stated in the description)

 

This memorabilia and manual refer ONLY to the 1/4" machines, not their larger multi-track systems.

These machines were once "workhorses" for general recording and editing (splicing) in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation facilities - the machines are not as good as the mighty Studer's (B67's A810/820's) but a solid general purpose professional machine all the same.

 

In this listing I am providing:

a) Full colour MX-5050 marketing brochure. Folds out to 6 pages

Although a Japanese product, this brochure refers to the USA branch of OTARI

b) Otari customer enquiry reply card - "thank you for your enquiry etc" in which it states the price of the machines, US$1420 for a basic model and US$2195 for the 4 channel version

c) Comprehensive Otari Instruction Manual - Service Manual

This is provided as single pages, each page is "hole punched" for insertion into a folder. A couple of pages (at the front) look to be photocopies (brighter white paper) but the balance of the manual is absolutely original.

In brief, this manual describes:

Standard and Optional accessories

Unpacking and setting up

Operation of the panel controls

Preventive maintenance

(most useful here is the replacement of the pinch roller and head adjustments)

Performance testing

LARGE foldout PCB assemblies

LARGE foldout exploded view drawings

FULL circuit diagrams

Roughly 50 pages all up but many are fold out style

 

CONDITION:

Most items are in very good condition, light "grubbiness" but nothing serious

The worst (and it is still very good overall) is the technical manual, just a couple of edges chewed by snails! but they didn't get much of a meal and the damage is extremely small - certainly no information in the manual is affected!

 

Total weight of all this paperwork is 600g - it is too heavy to be sent as a large letter and will ship as a small parcel.
