Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything that can be reused or repurposed creates Ee savings and reduces the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.
Never heard of Ee? So who may want just this motorised potentiometer?
Servicing or restoring another Z93 Midi system where it is known that either the motor has failed or the pot has become "scratchy" meaning the carbon track is worn. Not just limited to the Z93 either, I know other PIONEER systems use this same motorised potentiometer e.g Z83's
This is used as the stereo volume control by PIONEER

Supplied as in the photograph, designed for PCB mounting with 2x base securing pins (connected to the metal body), 2x motor pins and 6x potentiometer pins. You can easily find out the connection diagram online for these special pots from ALPS
The motor is not just an ordinary DC motor as I get strange DC readings in either test polarity.

The gearbox uses a plastic worm drive/gear & a metal clutch system - the gearbox assembly is open at one end
ALPS potentiometer has a small opening which provides access for a "spray clean" from time to time or as necessary (to keep down noise introduced because of a dirty or worn track in the future)
The shaft of the potentiometer is the "D" style (metal)

Very nice condition!

NO damage to this component during removal from the Z93
TESTING:
After removal from the equipment I wanted to check both the motor (fine) and carbon tracks. The resistance of each track is 93.8K Ohm and wiper travel is smooth both physically and electrically.
Although the potentiometer was NOT noisy prior to removal, I gave it a short healthy "squirt" of cleaner to make sure it is in A1 condition for the new owner.
Because there are some parts exposed to the environment (pot and gearbox) I have now placed this motorised potentiometer into a sealed plastic packet
