SWITCHCRAFT AERPRO AMPHENOL - Audio Adaptor Lead
1/4" jack plug splits into 2x XLR 3 pin connectors (1x Male 1x Female)
2 metres length
Lead comprises these components:
SWITCHCRAFT TRS 1/4" Jack plug
AERPRO Type AP326BL Figure 8 OFC twin core audio cable 2 metres in length
AMPHENOL XLR 3 pin Female plug
AMPHENOL XLR 3 pin Male plug
While Switchcraft and Amphenol are well known, I was not familiar with AERPRO at all. I believe this is an Australian company which sells rebranded product, so this cable is rebranded although it MAY have been made locally I have suspicions it was not. Seems that AERPRO are focused on the motor vehicle audio and accessory marketplace. I made some simple tests of this cable and the results are further down in this description.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
Clean
ALL plugs are in very good condition
Let's take a look inside ....
Connections at the XLR's are sound and have been made professionally while at the "other end" of the lead, the jack plug, this has been put together superbly - made to last. Mylar sheath has been used and then a decent length of Blue heatshrink applied from well inside the body out through the exit point, this acts as a cable strain relief.
Outer plastic sheath "nick" alert! Although very small, I could feel this bump in the outer plastic coating near the entry point to the jack plug (where the Blue heatshrink has been used) On one core I can see a very small "nick" in the plastic and a couple of copper threads from the shield. No big deal but I felt the new owner should be aware of this.
TESTING:
How is it wired Russ?
XLR Male has pins 1 & 3 shorted and connected to the cable shield, pin 2 (hot) is connected to TIP of the jack plug
XLR Female has pin 1 connected to the cable shield, pin 3 is NOT connected at all and pin 2 is connected to the RING of the jack plug
Each "side" of the cable is single core, one for each audio path.
264pF measured across the full 2 metres (Shield to core) or 40pF/foot - not brilliant at all but "useable" in most situations that are non-critical.
This lead has now been packed up in a sealed clear packet, ready to do work once again!
