Ex radio broadcasting equipment from UK
It is important to read my comments about the wiring of this lead
Read on ....
AUDIO LEAD
6 meters length
XLR-Female ~ 1/4" TS Mono Jack Plug Male
CYCLONE twin core shielded cable
Cable sheath is only printed with the CYCLONE (Registered trademark) along the length of the cable - nothing else
XLR connector has SWC-FE stamped into the front plastic section, the body is stainless steel and is completely unidentified without any metal stamping HOWEVER that part number SWC-FE is from SWITCHCRAFT - they just haven't broadcast the fact it is a SWITCHCRAFT product.
Jack plug is all metal, knurled user grip with a spring cable strain relief and again, no indication who made it until you take a look inside - it's a LEEM (Good quality product which is well known in the audio industry)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
Sheath is fine, barely any scuff marks (from use) and certainly no nicks etc
Both connectors are in very good condition, clean and shiny, with very little signs of use except the Jack plug cable strain spring is a little stretched - no drama's
Let's take a look inside ....
Connections at either end are sound and have been made professionally.
TESTING:
NON STANDARD AUDIO WIRING
(Shield is floating)
XLR Pin 1 connected to the coax Shield but it has NO connection at the TS Jack plug
XLR Pin 3 HOT (red core) is connected to the TS Jack plug TIP
XLR Pin 2 COLD (clear core) is connected to the TS Jack plug SLEEVE
It is very important to realise that this is NOT wired as a standard XLR to Jack audio lead and that the XLR shield is "floating" with no connection at the Jack plug (I can see the copper shield at the Jack plug but it has intentionally not been connected).
A "strap" at the XLR plug, between pin 1 & 2 will allow the lead to act as a normal XLR ~ Jack microphone cable
I have not used CYCLONE cable before and from a tactile point of view, it feels fine - flexible, not too light (or heavy) and the sheath appears to be a rubber material and quite thick. Not as "lovely to hold" as Klotz or Mogami but it's fine none-the-less
Total diameter of the cable "rubber like" sheath is 6mm
CAPACITANCE: core to core or core to shield reads 40pF per foot - not startling but acceptable
I have now placed this lead into a clear, sealed plastic packet awaiting a new owner.
