Ex our workshop spare parts and small manufacturing production stock
EVERY workshop and roadie needs a lot of different adapters in their "kit", so often there is a need to reliably join two types of connectors either on the bench or in the field/on stage.
Very nice, robust vintage adapter from NEUTRIK. I have compared this FC.NC to its contemporary counterpart, # NA3FF although my adapter is very similar, there are slight differences which are detailed below.
NEUTRIK - Gender Conversion Adapter
Metal body stamped with the NEUTRIK logo, part number FC.NC and each end of the XLR connector has stamped into the Black plastic, SWISS MADE
XLR 3 pin
Type: FC.NC (very similar to, but not the same as, the modern NA3FF)
Female to Female
ALL diecast metal body construction, connectors are Black plastic.
Both ends have the locking mechanism
All contact surfaces are Silver plated
See my notes below about the body construction, electrical characteristics
DIMENSIONS:
90mm length x 19.5mm diameter
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED but in very good condition
CLEAN
Unmarked (no writing or ID labelling) on the body
Silver plated contact areas, I cleaned them to a nice bright Silver finish.
TESTING AND NOTES:
First I checked the DC resistance on each pin to it's "mate" at the other end - no issues at all. I also ran audio through the adapter to check for "noise", nothing.
I discovered that the two body sections (joined in the middle by a screw thread with an insulating washer) are completely isolated from each other i.e measuring either on those three "fingers" at either end OR the body at either end, there is no continuity (infinity resistance) through to the other half of the adapter. This is intentional, all signal paths (and ground returns) are via those three pins only.
There is a screw at each end which locks the plastic section of the female connector in place, which I unscrewed. This allowed me to pull out the connector only a short distance but I can see that there is hard wiring inside between the two halves of the adapter.
The centre section (where the two halves join) does unscrew but only a small amount, I did not want to continue trying to unscrew this because I believe this is causing the wiring inside to rotate and twist - risk of breakage.
I have no idea how NEUTRIK originally put this one together (if man-made and not a machine) but it's tricky to get inside - best left alone!
So after all that information, the adapter comes up A1 with regard to electrical connectivity!
Now stored in a sealed clear plastic packet
