PREH is a West German company, formed in 1919. These days they appear to have concentrated on the automotive industry but back in the 1970's they were manufacturers of high quality connectors, particularly those complying to the DIN standard.
This multi-function interconnect lead was used with specialised telecommunications equipment from Philips N.V but would suit repurposing where a high quality lead is required, fully metal enclosed right-angle 8 pin DIN to a connector of your choosing or simply hard wired into equipment. I have seen these 8 pin connectors used in a variety of professional and consumer equipment, ranging from PLC programming cables, consumer wired remote control systems, telecommunications equipment etc - the metal plug is especially suitable for demanding audio use, along with DC control functions.
This metal DIN plug is far superior to the modern 'nasties' with all plastic bodies!
PREH - Multi-core Lead (8 pin DIN male ~ Bare wires)
Made in West Germany
Circa 1970's ~ 1980's
Very nice twin shell 8 pin DIN male connector, solder terminations with right-angle entry
Thick sheathed multi-core cable which is colour coded
The 'distant' end of the lead is left with bare wires.
All strands/conductors are bare copper - not tinned or silver-plate
7 conductors are quite thin, these were carrying audio signals originally
4 conductors are much heavier gauge, these were carrying low voltage DC power and control signals to relays
1 Outer braided shield
So, although the connector is an 8 pin DIN, there are in fact 11 wires within the cable plus one ground/earth path.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
Clean, shiny body and contacts
Access inside the connector is simple with just one screw to remove and then the two half metal shells separate.
Externally, one shell has
MADE IN W. GERMANY
stamped into the diecast metal
The other half of the shell has
PREH (Stylised as their company logo)
stamped into the diecast metal
Cable sheath is undamaged
All conductors are clean copper (no oxidisation!)
