Spare Old Stock
Ex our workshop stores, I personally love the old connectors used originally by the likes of British Post Office and PMG. These plugs were in common use throughout the telecommunications industry in the 1970's ~ 1980's during the golden era of manual switchboards
While (strictly speaking) these plugs are not compliant with modern standards for 6.35mm plugs, they do still "work" fine. I have included a photograph of this plug inserted into a Switchcraft 12B jack socket - perfect fit ... snug and secure (no barrel wobbles) and the tip/ring contact areas are correct.
The
The only "issue" can be how to secure or anchor the cable. There is no clamp, although the entry point has an INSIDE thread. From memory these originally had cloth covered cables connected to them. The inside of the entry barrel has already had a previous "ground" or sleeve connection by soldering directly to the Brass metal - you may be able to see this in the photograph
MANUFACTURER UNKNOWN - Jack Plug
I suspect this plug COULD have been made by Australux Dynamics but not sure ...
Type: BPO 316 Plug
TRS (Tip Ring & Sleeve)
ALL Brass metal construction
High temperature nylon insulation material
Internal terminals use a very small "eye" tag, to which the cable wire is soldered. Although previously used, I will include the two eye tags you can see in the photograph. Terminals are secured with very small Brass screws.
The outer body is Black plastic (I think), I tried a bakelite test and drew zero results.
Entry point for the audio cable measures 5.5mm INSIDE diameter, made of Brass and has a thread (type unknown)
In case you need the physical information, I have included a photograph of the plug dimensions although it is measured in inches!
Black body has 316 stamped into the material
Brass body has TP/74 316 stamped into the Brass

I have "buffed up" the brass, I like it that way!

This plug has now been completely sealed in a clear plastic packet, awaiting the new owner!
