NO REMOTE - but as noted above, I DO have the remote (RM-S205) for the complete Midi system and this of course controls this CD player - it is optional and must be purchased separately to this CD Player.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
In very good condition, case is not dented or otherwise damaged!
The majority of the case is fabricated from plastic EXCEPT the top and bottom, both of which are sheet steel.
This is very important, particularly the top, because I have used CD players with thin top sections and if something heavy is placed on top - the laser assembly starts to malfunction - not good!
The top of this CD player is tough and very rigid.
No front panel labelling damage, nice and clean.
Light blue flouroscent display is large, clear and easy to read - we actually liked this display very much because it is clear but not too bright for low ambient light levels.
TESTING:
This is another of our "consumer level" CD players from the "green room" (which actually wasn't green) in our audio post production days.
It was used primarily for client "critical listening" to pre-production master CD's, this CD player being one of many as our clients often would like to A-B-C comparison the sound of their music on different systems.
Straight forward to use, never missed a beat and very good sound.
Since closing our audio production facilities down, this player has been stored in our storage units, so over the last few weeks I have been using this player constantly to check everything is fine - no issues at all.
To be sure everything is top notch, I opened up the CD player and cleaned the laser lens manually then greased the slide rail for smooth movement of the head.
Testing undertaken both from the front panel controls and the RM-S205 remote, which I also have
Powers up fine ...
CD tray opens/closes upon command, quickly and without "jerking"
Most testing listed below was done just prior to this listing over a period of 2 weeks continuous use playing the CD's I am listing advertising online
Plays both standard audio CD's and audio CD-R's - this will NOT play MP3 (why on earth would you want to?)
Insert the disc and reading of the CD TOC is rapid, showing the Table Of Contents almost immediately
Playing of any CD tracks is without issues - certainly no "skipping" or strange noises which will occur if the laser assembly is having problems reading the CD
SPECIAL NOTE: Amongst the CD's that I played/tested on this equipment, some had pretty scratched media - quite bad in fact. The M27 did NOT miss a beat, testament to the laser system and in-built error correction - it won't spit the dummy on less than perfect discs!
Audio output is very good, clean and not "gritty" - very acceptable.
The laser assembly is fine but eventually ALL laser heads will give up the ghost (actually they tend to fade away, giving rise to reading issues), they don't last forever.
The installed KSS-150A was superseded by the KSS-210A but I had a quick look around online and found that either can still be purchased and they are not stupidly expensive IF EVER YOU NEEDED TO CHANGE THE LASER - THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AT THE MOMENT!
While cleaning the lens and slide rail I noticed how easy access is for any possible servicing, the tray drive belt is not buried within the drive mechanism and the laser assembly sits on four easy to remove rubber/spring suspension posts - very nice layout (from a servicing point of view) Access to the laser assembly/tray drive belt is from the UNDERNEATH, not the top of the case.
In summary, a very nice compact CD player and the audio output is acceptable for most consumer purposes.
No problems with shipping, it will be very well packed to ensure safe arrival!
