Removed from a special "slide in" loading cassette mechanism used in vintage Soundcraft (NZ) professional audio equipment
The motor described below is the main drive motor for the cassette mechanism which was made by Tanashin Denki Co. Ltd (Japan) under licence from Staar S.A Brussels - Belgium (the holder of the design patents)
It is quite likely that other Japanese cassette machines may use this NAM-5A motor
Equipment dates from the mid 1980's
Nipon Audio Motor
Model: NAM 5A
Dimensions:
Body - 40mm diameter x 22mm height
Central shaft - 1mm shaft
Brass Pulley - 6mm height x 9mm diameter (secured to the shaft by 2x extremely small slot head grub screws)
Motor body has 3x top mounting threaded bolts (supplied) each is spaced 25mm from any other bolt
110mm flying power lead - shielded
13.2V DC operation
2400RPM
Bi-directional rotation. The manufacturer's label has CW printed on it and I see others have taken this to mean "clockwise" but this is a DC motor, reverse the polarity and the rotational direction reverses, I have confirmed this in my testing - rotational speed is the same in either direction.
Negative to shield = clockwise rotation
Postitive to shield = anti-clockwise rotation
COSMETIC CONDITION:
Clean and undamaged in any way
TESTING:
Powered up with a 13V DC power source, rapidly spins up and runs quietly in either rotational direction
Although I cannot measure the torque, there is plenty of it! It was extremely difficult to stop the rotation with my fingers!
Stored and supplied in sealed plastic
