HISTORY:
Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything (that has been tested and still functioning properly) should be repurposed creating saving in wasted Ee and reducing the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.
Never heard of Ee? It is a concept that creates a measurement of ALL things (not just electronics) that humans have made and the energy used in obtaining the raw material, processing the materials right through to a finished product and even should include the shipping of the item to the distributors/retailers.
If you would like to know more about Ee values, please take a look HERE
Pioneer designed this monster of a machine (it was very large) which combined a 5 disc DVD/VCD/Audio CD carousel player with a receiver and Karaoke facilities and even 5 channel surround sound (with Sub Woofer output). Dang! it was large and quite heavy but alas, the carousel system (and laser assembly) had failed and the equipment was not considered worthwhile repairing.
I am extremely reluctant to just throw out equipment that can be re-incarnated, repurposed or salvaged for useful parts so this equipment went onto the "operating table" and has become an "organ donor"
While many of the modules or individual parts are too specialised to be of use in other equipment, this audio power amplifier module is a different story.
I am thinking that this module can be a quick fix for another XV-HTD01 DVD Receiver as it is basically a "drop in" unit, no soldering required
OR
Extract those hard to find hybrid audio power modules, the STK413-000 and STK-402-230
Let's move on to a full description ...
PIONEER - DVD Receiver with Karaoke facilities
Audio Power Module ONLY
Assembled in Malaysia
Audio Power Module could be thought of as an "audio brick" with two PCB's, separated by a heatsink/fan arrangement.
Rear of the module has the spring loaded speaker terminals integral to the module
The single sided printed circuit board on one side of the module is the Rear & Centre channel power amplifier, based on the STK402-230
The opposite single sided printed circuit board is the main audio amplifier, front loudspeaker driving with a Sub Woofer output, based on the STK413-000
The complete module sits with the PCB's in a vertical position and the interconnections with the main board are via 4x sockets at the base - there are no other "flying leads" or connections to be de-soldered/soldered.
The cooling fan at one end of the heatsink (blowing air across the heatsink and out to the rear panel) is powered from the main audio amplifier PCB.
However, fixing an old DVD Receiver might not be of any interest ....
The second obvious option is to extract the two hybrid blocks, not a difficult task as the board is only single sided and it involves "straight line" de-soldering of the 21 pins.
MODULE DIMENSIONS:
190mm depth x 80mm wide x 120mm height
WEIGHT: 700g
COSMETIC CONDITION:
CLEAN
Dust free
Completely undamaged
NO PCB issues or other physical damage
Connectors at the base are all clean and ready to "mate" with another main board
TESTING:
Not much use offering a module without testing it first! Fortunately the receiver section was working fine as were the auxilliary inputs (analog and SPDIF digital) so I played a lot of music over the whole of yesterday at pretty "decent" volumes and checked ALL audio outputs from this module.
Absolutely nothing wrong at all - in fact I was pretty impressed by the sound quality this module produces!
Now that I have finished with the photographs and description, this module is safely wrapped in bubblewrap within a strong box, ready to give "new life" to another piece of equipment
