HISTORY:
My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.
I ran an audio post production facility for many years and our world was analog tape (all sizes) shellac, vinyl and even 1940's cardboard records from WWII!
I am working through an amount of 1/4" magnetic audio tape which has been well looked after (temperature controlled environment in the dark!) and now it is time to find new owners for this gear.
At this stage, most of the tape is 1/4" up to 7 inch reel size and a wide range of manufacturers
This BASF TP18 audio recording tape is BRAND NEW, and the tape reel itself is COMPLETELY FACTORY SEALED (BASF special tape around the circumference of the reel)
ALL my Studer & Revox R2R machines have "left home" and I am "out" of the audio business professionally, so it is time for this R2R tape to find a new home.
BASF made some excellent tape formulations over the years but I would have to say this particular tape is "pretty ordinary", by today's standards probably there will be higher "noise floor" and bias should be set to "normal"
The primary advantage of this tape is the length, it is much thinner (18 microns) than standard tape and BASF have managed to fit 3600 feet onto a standard 7" reel (that's 3x the normal length of tape) - that is why they call this tape TP (Triple Play)
Perhaps of more interest to some is the lovely BASF archival case with the "drop down" front spine - these are absolutely excellent for tape libraries.
BASF is well known for their great tape recording media, suitable for all and perhaps most important of all is the fact that these tapes from BASF are NOT known for their tape shedding issues, unlike many "top name" tapes.
Our personal experience (and it was a LONG time ago) was a good one, no shedding nasties but if you would like to read other users opinions about BASF TP tape, I suggest you undertake a search around the online forums (and then make an educated judgement - unfortunately some of the forums are frequented by absolute knob heads!)
Never heard of tape shedding? It is an absolute nightmare for the R2R professional or enthusiast because not only will the tape run very noisily (squeeking as it moves through your machine's tape path), it deposits masses of oxide on the heads and transport path - Urghhh, a big cleanup job is often required if a tape has shed when being played.
HERE is some more detailed information about the dreaded tape shedding issue
So here we go ...
BASF - Audio Recording Tape
Manufactured in Germany
Circa Late 1980's
Type: TP18 (Triple Play 18 micron thickness) 1080
Format: 1/4"
Size: 7 Inch Reel
Length: 1100 Metres (3600 Feet)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
NEW
SEALED REEL - the reel is within a light plastic container, this container has a BASF seal all around the circumference. I can also see the inside of the tape reel still has the factory stickers.
This sealed reel is sitting inside a BASF "drop down" archival storage case
The storage case is clean and unmarked
NO personal labelling of any kind
To maintain the current condition, I have now sealed the complete package in clear plastic.
As this is one of my ex audio production business stock, there will NOT be any ongoing supply once this lonely tape has found a new owner
