HISTORY:
My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.
I ran an audio post production facility for many years and our world was analog tape (all sizes) shellac, vinyl and even 1940's cardboard records from WWII!
I am working through an amount of 1/4" magnetic audio tape which has been well looked after (temperature controlled environment in the dark!) and now it is time to find new owners for this gear.
At this stage, most of the tape is 1/4" up to 7 inch reel size and a wide range of manufacturers
This MAXELL audio recording tape is BRAND NEW, but NOT FACTORY SEALED
I have more of this same tape formulation HERE but this reel is different, it is the Japanese domestic market version.
Leader remains secure on the reel (never been lifted off), original plastic inner bag, metallic strips (used on some machines to detect the tape mechanically) and the OBI strip on the rear (all Japanese writing)
The graphics design used on the "export version" are entirely different to this tape and of course there is no OBI strip on the rear as the intended market was "English speaking" for those tapes.
This tape packaging does have English on the box but most buyers in Japan would "flip over" the box to read the Japanese strip on the rear.
I bought this tape a long time ago while visiting Tokyo and then purchased further "Export" stock when I was back in Australia.
Although an open, non sealed package, this tape has never seen a head!
ALL my Studer & Revox machines have "left home" and I am out of the audio business, professionally now so it is time for this R2R tape to find a new home.
MAXELL UD 35-90 is well known for their great tape recording media, suitable for all and perhaps most important of all is the fact that these tapes from MAXELL are NOT known for their tape shed issues, unlike many other tapes. If you would like to read other users opinions about MAXELL UD 35-90 tape, take a look at THIS FORUM (very knowledgeable professional folks on all matters to do with magnetic tape and machines)
Never heard of tape shedding? It is an absolute nightmare for the R2R professional or enthusiast because not only will the tape run very noisily, it deposits masses of oxide on the heads and transport path - Urghhh, a big cleanup job is often required if a tape has shed when being played.
HERE is some more detailed information about the dreaded tape shedding issue
So here we go ...
MAXELL - Audio Recording Tape
Manufactured in Japan
Circa Late 1990's ~ 2010 (this is the time period I was in Japan "picking up" some of this R2R equipment)
Formulation: UD Series
Format: 1/4"
Size: 7 Inch Reel
Length: 550 Metres (1800 Feet)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
NEW
UN-SEALED
Comes in an all cardboard outer casing with OBI strip
Light handing damage to the box graphics (edges) but the box is sound and undamaged
Actually, since taking the photographs, I have decided to seal this tape package in clear plastic to maintain the condition, so it will be in a sealed pack but NOT the original seal.
As this is one of my ex audio production business stock, there will NOT be any ongoing supply once this lonely tape has found a new owner
