HISTORY:
Working through yet more reel to reel related accessories and media plus some PHILIPS reel to reel tape machines, models N4504 & N4512
These buttons suit either model and are used on the lever switches which provide the functions of: MONITOR SELECT, TRACK SELECTION, SPEED SELECTOR & DNL ON-OFF
Not a bad machine from Philips, 3 motors, separate Read and Write heads in addition to the Erase head, 3 run speeds but not all that impressed with the extensive use of plastic for the case, albeit high impact very strong plastic! This makes for a pretty lightweight machine compared to the Otari 5050's and Studer B67's I have lugged around in the past!
There was actually very little "wrong" with the machines I am "parting out" but I felt they were more useful as "organ donors" to bring other machines back to life (or improve their functioning) so they are currently being "operated on" to extract useful components.
Another component that gets damaged or even broken in some cases.
I am very much "into" sustainability and a complete tape machine represents a LOT of embedded energy and to waste that embedded energy is a very bad thing, even worse is to bury it in landfill and subsequently poison our environment!

Part # (143) Switch Lever Assembly - LEVER ONLY (the Service Manual does not identify the part number of just the paddle lever)

Switch Lever Paddle Lever (MONITOR SELECT, TRACK SELECTION, SPEED SELECTOR & DNL ON-OFF)
Material: Metal (Aluminium) with a dull silver coloured finish
Type: Friction fit, shaft is knurled and you secure (or remove) this paddle by carefully rotating (like a screw) into the lever switch body (143), usually this will hold the lever very securely although I know some do add a little glue to help prevent someone removing them - but that can cause issues later (a glued lever is extremely difficult to remove without damage!)
DIMENSIONS:
11.5mm Length x 5.4mm Wide with "flattened" top and bottom, it is a lever paddle after all
Fixing shaft is knurled and is 6.5mm Length x 2.5mm Diameter
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO broken parts
NO substantial marks or scratching
*** Yes a couple of paddles have a tiny mark here or there but overall, perfectly fine for re-use
SPECIAL NOTE:
When I first came across these I thought they were plain old plastic but noticed they are extremely tough and do not mark easily when being removed. Held in the hand they don't feel like plastic, although very light they just didn't feel "right".
I then checked the resistance of the lever (!) with my trusty multimeter (end to end of the paddle) at yes! very low resistance at around 0.85 Ohm - definitely metal and I can only assume this is Aluminium (based on the weight)
I have now packed these switch paddle levers into individual clear plastic packets, awaiting a new owner
